Empty Weight depending on seating
« on: March 15, 2019, 08:50:15 AM »
Summary: Seat configurations should affect plane empty weight & resulting payload calculations.

Current situation: Every passenger is considered payload, equivalent to 95kg of payload. Seats though are not counted as weight.

Example: It does not matter if a specific plane has 100 or 150 seats, range or possible payload does not get affected by that. So of course, that sounds ridiculous, but even the most modern economy-seats have a weight of about 10kg. Lie-flat Biz/First-Seats weigh in at 100-150kg. Multiplying that with 10, 15 seats, it makes for 100 to 150kg, or even ten times as much if it is business class seats.

Requested situation: Empty weight should be with a standard seat-config. Seats should have specific weights, depending on their comfort-level of course, and on the "era" - maybe make new seats with weight-savings every few years. Maybe also make seat-levels availble with time: no lie-flats in the 50ies and 60ies or so.
Modification: Plus maybe some extra weight to consider for premium service classes: if one is offering first, its additional weight, if one is offering business, its additional weight (to account for extra galley-space etc.).

Would go well with this earlier proposal: https://www.airwaysim.com/forum/index.php/topic,78381.msg461762.html#msg461762

well, yes, i guess you get the idea: give options with advantages and disadvantages; passenger comfort/price/weight, with date&time being part of the equation.
