Wilian Sr.'s family announced today that its patriarch has passed away. He died at home while sleeping and the family's doctor suspects he had a natural death. He was about to turn 91 in 2 months.

Minor delays in AERBRA's flights were reported, as the crew would do the ritual of staying 1 minute in silence before each flight to pay homage to the company's founder. Wilian Jr., Wilian Sr.'s son and current airline's CEO, received by the Bahian State Governor a Medal of Honor for his father in memory of his efforts as a businessman which made the state of Bahia and the city of Salvador known by the whole world.

Born in Sao Paulo in Sept 1912, Wilian Sr. graduated in Mechanical Engineering at Mackenzie College in 1937. He then worked in heavy industries and eventually made into the Economics department of a local paper mill. He was introduced to the airline business in 1953 by a college friend who was working at Alegre, a former Brazilian airline, in Rio de Janeiro. He worked there in the Economics Department, Middle Level and High Level Management. He and his friend left the company in the end of 1962 and started a charter service from Salvador to Ilheus with a leased Convair 240, which became AERBRA in May 1964. He was the airline's CEO from 1964 through 1989, when he left the position to Wilian Jr and since then was a member of the airline's Board of Directors. His last public appearance was in last year's military event of the Brazilian Independence Anniversary; before that, he recorded an institutional video aimed at motivating the airline's crew right after the 9/11 attacks.
