Purely aesthetic

Routes are represented by a certain amount of small straight segments, but there are a little to few sections and we can clearly see a breaking angle each time two segments join.

Changed from 100 segments to 150, not sure if it makes any noticeable difference.

(the more lines there are the slower it gets)

Yes, still noticeable (got a high res screen), but thanks anyway :)

Actually, the big difference between google and AWS's maps that makes AWS slower is the fact that in AWS the detailing is always the same no matter what the zoom is whereas with google each zoom has a different layer / different info, thus requiring much less info to be loaded - only the ones necessary for that degree of zoom, given you don't zoom in an out frantically.

I think the segments are relatively light to load compared to the map itself, aren't they?

Not sure what you are talking about but the technical basis for google and airwaysim maps is exactly the same. When user zooms out only the map tiles are loaded, not the markers / lines.

Not sure what you are talking about

AWS: the map is the same no matter what zoom level you use. The info displayed is always the same. Comparatively lighter when zooming in (and a little pixelated) and heavier when zooming out (as very detailed info is loaded while it's not always necessary because invisible except on high res screens).

Google: every zoom level displays different data. Each time you zoom in, new info appears/disappears. So comparatively, the action of zooming in/out requires the loading of new info, but don't load useless info that we couldn't see/use at that said zoom level.

In the end, Google is just like a bunch of maps, one at 1/25000, one at 1/50000, one at 1/100000, etc. AWS is always somewhere in the middle and we're virtually either getting it closer or more distant from our eyes.
