It seems to me that the slot costs are moderately high, but not astronomically high. (in GW3)

I think that's good.  With good availability of aircraft, we don't want to end up with players spamming all the slots with small / medium aircraft...  Money is always a better bottleneck than speed at which one grabs slots, slot locks an airport...
