[-] Addition of 4th cabin class, Premium Economy
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:54:09 PM »
Could we look at moving 'premium economy' seats out of the economy section and into it's own cabin? Therefore being able to sell these seats as a premium on long haul flights.

"Premium economy" in cabin configuration refer to luxurious economy seat, not what is offered in your usual premium economy class.

This would only truly be useful on such aircrafts as 33X, 34X, 35X, 38X, and 77X, 78X.

You're correct, but I'm asking for the actual cabin and game world demand :)

Correct, any long haul, wide body aircraft.

Actually, it depend on what kind of premium economy seats we are talking about.... like from Air New Zealand's old SpaceSeat on their 777 compared to simplest Economy Plus from some carriers... that Air NZ product is like a cheaper business class and those Economy Plus is essentially economy seat with a little bit extra legroom.. the target customer for all these different products are also different... Perhaps this have to be considered after the demand system being innovated so that the system-generated traveller can flexibly consider what kind of travel class they want to travel in, instead of restricted to individual class which would make it hard to model premium economy

You could have a floater system of economy and business feed in to it on your system where instead of needing to model a whole new demand system you could have say 5 - 20% of economy passengers will feed into premium economy if available (maybe different %'s in different parts of the world) Like poorer countries wouldn't have a need for premium economy but richer countries like USA, Australia may have higher %'s also have a % of business class feed into it as well (my percents are just examples)

So you wouldn't need to model a new demand system and sami can make it a hidden % or make it known really up to him if he was to implement it :)

The stated reason at the time was "The 4th class will not be added as it's more a phenomenon of the last 2-3 years" however it have already been 8 years since then and they are becoming more and more popular.

according to the other thread which was from 2009, it was a phenomenon that started in 2006, since then it has been a popular choice with airlines that takes it to something that has been around for over 11 years now making it a staple thing in the airline industry. It was added to give passengers more freedom in that some passengers wanted more comfort compared to economy but didn't want pay for business seats so premium economy was added for those customers.

But I can agree with the decision of sami not adding it in as it is not something used in the whole world.
