Bankrupt company with ordered planes

What happens with planes on order if a company goes
bankrupt?

For example...
Air X orders 5 A319s from Airbus factory (delivery in Jun 2001)
but it goes bankrupt in Dec 2000.
What happens to those 5 A319s?

Are they returned to Airbus? or do they become available on
used market? or .... ???

The ordered aircraft are not manufactured and the delivery slots become available to new orders. In your example, if someone orders 5 A319s or less (or other aircraft from the same production line) right after the other airline went bankrupt, she will get the slots, i.e. the aircraft will be delivered in June 2001. If the new order is more than 5, the entire order goes to the end of the line.
