Olympiakos to use jet aircrafts as new Paris airport opens
« on: April 15, 2016, 07:21:40 PM »
After two decades of relying on Vickers Viscount and Vickers Vanguard aircrafts, Olympiakos is now introducing DC-9 aircrafts into its fleet. The CEO of the 2nd biggest Greek airline said:

We actually bought these jets off the used market to sell them later at a higher price. We regularly buy old aircrafts, do their expired checks and seek airlines willing to buy well maintained aircrafts. Since nobody seemed interested in our DC-9-10, we simply scheduled them on our new Paris routes. We expect it to be a new era for Olympiakos - especially as the Vickers Vanguards are getting older every day.

Aviation experts see a shift from propeller-driven aircrafts to jet-based airplanes. For medium-haul routes, Olympiakos is thus likely to rely on DC-9 for the time to come. The Vickers Viscount airplanes will still play an important role in Olympiakos' concept as there are no suitable aircrafts in sight which could possibly substitute them.
