Minor changes / fixes

Fixes

  • Formula for calculating aircraft lease fees was incorrect for the manual extension if the aircraft was above a certain age (gave too low values). Fixed.

  • Performance updates at Airport Information page.

  • Airport Information page's pax market share chart made more clear when there are very many airlines sharing the airport. (the ones with small market share are grouped together under "others".)

  • Performance updates to staff number calculations.

  • When selling aircraft, the minimum condition requirement defaults to >70%.

New notifications at route and schedule management

Updates

  • Route editor has now the possibility to generate a different individual route for each of the days the flight is operated, the 'Create each day as a separate route' checkbox.  Simplifies the so-called 7-day scheduling method quite much. (this feature has been in 'test' mode for the last week and is now deemed to work, and is fully enabled)

  • Most of the notifications at Scheduling and Manage Routes pages have been updated to the new side-screen notification system. No longer does the screen scroll all the way to the top to view the success/error message. Some of the functions like adding a flight to schedule still use the old system. Feedback on the changes is welcome.

  • Data on route adding dialog at Scheduling page has been updated. The days of each flight are now more clearly visible for example (helps in scheduling if you have many routes with the same flight number, again making the 7-day system easier). On loading the route add dialog the route list is always refreshed immediately now too.

  • The schedule moving dialog (from plane to another) has been updated in a similar manner than the route adding dialog.

Pre-Join an upcoming Game World

A new feature that allows you to join a new & upcoming game world before it has started. With this change it's now easier for players to book their slot for the new game and get reminded when it opens.

Updates

  • The pre-joining to a new game world is available on the new "main" game worlds a few days before they actually open. It's not available in the Beginner's scenarios. The time when pre-joining becomes available for each game depends on when administration actually creates and sets up the game, and depends on when the email newsletters and other promotional material of the new game is sent out. Generally this will be 2-4 days before the game world opens.

  • To pre-join a game world the user will simply need to go to the Game Area and scroll to the game that's about to open, and click the 'pre-join game' button. Pre-joining is completely free and only a preliminary indication of your intent to join the game later on.

  • When the game world opens all members who have pre-joined will receive an email. They will then need to go to the game area and confirm their joining to the game. At this time the 5 Credits is also deducted, like in any other game joining. So the pre-joining is simply a way to receive a notification when the game world opens and to reserve a slot for you in the game in case it fills up quickly (also eliminating the need to be online at the exact minute the game launches).

  • The pre-joined members are counted in the game's total player numbers.

  • The pre-joining expires when 21 days of the game have passed (approx 1.5 days after game has opened).

  • Game world joining confirmation pop-up dialog now displays the game world name, to make it more clear which game you are joining.

This system will be used in the next Regional Challenge game world, pre-joining will be available on Wednesday.

New features

Updates

  • Players can now assign a description text of their airline. This is done via Settings page. The description is visible at the airline information page.

  • Launch customer discount thresholds for new aircraft orders have been changed. The discount is now relative to the aircraft size class; smaller aircraft requires a smaller order to qualify for the launch customer discount, and larger planes require a larger order. The settings for launch customer discount are:
       - Must order within 1 year from launch or at least 60 days after certification.
       - Be the first to order this particular model.
       - Minimum order amount per size class:  Small - 4, Medium - 10, Large - 20, Very Large - 10.
       - Discount is (still the same) 10% for all order types and all aircraft sizes

  • Launch customer discount information is now also visible in the news posted of each new aircraft order.

  • New setting option: "Automatically send leased out planes to long-term storage when aircraft are returned" (at Settings -> Aircraft Settings page). Does exactly what it says: when any plane is returned to you from lease with another airline, it is automatically put into long-term storage (parking) instead of remaining idle in your fleet. This avoids the automatic C/D checks. The leasing contract termination message also notifies of this when this setting is on.

  • Sukhoi Superjet and Fairchild Dornier 528/728/928 fleet groups are allowed in London City airport.

  • The used aircraft Price Advisor now tells you also the price of a similarly equipped new aircraft compared to the used aircraft being viewed. Example (5 yr old A340 in 95% condition): "The price of this aircraft appears to be reasonable and normal compared to its specifications. We estimate the fair price to be between 194 880 000 USD - 252 920 000 USD. The list price of a similar new aircraft is currently 265 024 000 USD."

New aircraft models

These updates are effective in all game worlds (unless stated otherwise).

Updates

  • Bombardier Dash 8-Q400 NextGen added. This is the upgraded Q400 with improved cabin (larger capacity) and slightly better fuel economy. Available from 2008. Data is updated to current Game Worlds #1 and #4 and to any new games.

  • Dornier Do228NG added. Data is updated to current Game Worlds #1 and #4 and to any new games. Ranges of other Do228 variants also updated (only to master database, visible in any new game worlds).

  • Airbus A330-300 242t weight variant is added (note; database has currently 5 different weight options for this model but in real life it has about 10 other options too (between the standard 212tn and max 242tn) but for the sake of simplicity all these mid-variants are not added here).

(more aircraft updates before the next long game world launches...)

Minor new features and fixes

These updates are effective in all game worlds (unless stated otherwise).

Updates

  • Marketing for Route Image can be set in months/weeks instead of years/months.

  • Changes to A/B check logic to reduce unnecessary warnings:

      - All warnings of "expired A/B checks" are replaced with warnings of "A/B checks not scheduled". Aircraft with no routes and expired A/B checks do not appear on Dashboard or Aircraft area's warning listings.

      - To get a warning in the interface about A/B checks you will now need to have a) the check in question expired and b) the check in question not scheduled for the plane and c) at least one route assigned to that plane.

      - The scheduling page will warn still normally about checks expired or about to be expired when transferring schedules. Same is with the indicator icons in aircraft and scheduling listing page, they will also warn like before if the check has been expired.

      - My Aircraft details page has a new warning if the A/B checks are not scheduled.

      - The 'ramp check' fines for missed A/B checks occur now only if the checks are not actually scheduled and are also expired (still with certain considerable margin, like previously).

  • Aircraft production slots page now shows the production line status next to the name of each model (in the "production line information" box at the top).

  • Production line dynamic settings for small aircraft (size class 1) adjusted - production line stays open longer with less orders.

Fixes

  • Minor changes to the data of Ilyushin Il-62 / -62M / -62MK (new games only).

  • Automatic registration assignment works now when aircraft lease has ended and plane is returned to owner.

  • Automatic move into long-term storage works now when aircraft lease has ended and plane is returned to owner.

  • Sorting on Manage Routes page is improved (case of same flight number and each day having a different individual route).

  • Sorting on Scheduling page's "Add route to schedule" dialog is improved. The dialog also shows more routes on one page now.

  • Minor changes to the slot checker system on busy airports, making route swapping easier.

  • Aircraft selling page redirects back to My Aircraft listing page and now it remembers the filters used.

  • The small notification messages at the lower right-hand corner have been moved to the lower left corner in order not to block some of the interface's buttons/links.

  • Aircraft production line display fixed in case of production line is about to end soon and a large order is then placed.

  • Improved the error handling at Scheduling page's maintenance dialog (had issues when the dialog was confirmed/closed with 'enter' keypress). Same improvements will be added to other dialogs if this seems to be working.

  • Largest allowed flight number is now 99999.

Minor changes and fixes

These updates are effective in all game worlds.

Updates

  • Formatting of "Route sales revenue and expenses" table updated slightly at Routes area front page.

  • Cargo revenue is stored and shown under own line on all financial reports on route and aircraft pages (= "ticket revenue" and "cargo revenue"). (Many other changes to the cargo system too; still in development.)

  • Improved the "easy start" feature to suggest better airports at the game's early "low-supply & high-demand" situation (in order not to pile the players to the same airports).

  • Pre-joined members who have not actually joined the game are removed 45 game days after the game has started (previously 21 days).

  • Changed the max allowed number of airlines HQ'ed at an airport to 10 at largest airports (size 5) and 8 at size 4 airports.

Fixes

  • Tax calculation fix, in some rare cases losses from previous years were not properly counted.

  • Minor formatting fixes to tooltips at airline creation phase's airport info window.

  • Fixed a case of pre-joining system that didn't allow pre-joined players to join if the game was otherwise already full.

Larger alliances (and other fixes)

These updates are effective in all game worlds (unless otherwise stated).

Updates

  • The maximum amount of members per each alliance is now related to the player capacity of the game world. Minimum level is 20 members in all games, and the new maximum is 40 members (reached when game's max player capacity is >700). This way we can encourage more players to join alliances in large games.

  • Loans system does not allow unlimited amount of different loan contracts per airline anymore. It depends now on the airline age: between 6 to 30 different contracts (= always at least 6), and works in a similar manner than the same system for marketing campaigns.

  • (only new games started after Jan-16): Specifications of early proplines like DC-4, DC-6, DC-7 and Lockheed Constellation adjusted from here and there. Mainly changes in the fuel and price values.

Fixes

  • Fixed a case where alliances could be formed immediately, but applying to them was not possible when airline was not at least 6 months old (= when alliance limit settings were off, this limit was still on).

  • (only new games started after Jan-16): B737-900ER had incorrect default seat config compared to B737-900, fixed.

  • Small fix to Personnel Office's quick management tools to prevent rounding errors.

  • Error messages improved on loans page.

Aircraft data update

These updates are effective in all game worlds, unless otherwise stated.

Updates

  • Airbus A330-800neo and Airbus A330-900neo models added:

    • Introduced in 2014 and available in late 2017.

    • Available on all new game worlds and the current game worlds #1, #2 and #4. (note; designated as prototype model since all data is not available)

  • Airbus A330-300 data is updated:

    • Airbus A330-300: The baseline model, weight variants 212tn, 215tn, 217tn. No data changes.

    • Airbus A330-300X: The first increased range/MTOW model introduced in 1999. Weight variants 230tn (the previous +18tn variant) and 232tn (new weight variant).

    • Airbus A330-300E: The second increased range model, introduced in 2014. Weight variants 235tn and 242tn (both new).

    • Note that the 300X and 300E are not the official Airbus designators used in their marketing, but the modelling has been done here in the same way as with A340 (since the weight variants are all available when the model is launched and the 230+ tn variants cannot be present already in 1989).

    • This update is valid on all new game worlds and the current Game World #2 in full. Game Worlds #1 and #4 have only the A330-300E, while the previous 242tn data for the baseline A330-300 remains there (cannot be removed since they are already in use).

  • Mitsubishi MRJ certification dates updated (project delayed, again). (only to new game worlds)

  • Boeing 787 runway requirements adjusted. (only to new game worlds)

  • Airbus A330 and A340 runway requirements adjusted. (only to new game worlds)

Fixes

  • The airline code suggestion tool at new airline creation did not update in case of an error message.

  • Alliance creation did not work after some other updates, fixed.

  • Aircraft condition was possible to be >100% for ~30 seconds due to slow database update cycle, fixed.

  • Technical changes to parts of database structure (optimizations etc.)

  • Dynamic airport fees (landing/nav fee) can be turned off in master game settings (not normally used (= always dynamic), but required for some special games).

  • Cargo: A new "simpleCargo" demand system built to make testing of cargo features easier before City Based Demand is fully ready.

  • Cargo: Cargo configuration systems added.

  • Cargo: Much work with the City Based Demand system (in progress).

Fixes

  • Aircraft production lists page was slow on some occasions, fixed.

  • Fuel price prediction did not always take into account the game-specific custom inflation levels, fixed.

In-game advisors

These updates are effective in all game worlds, unless otherwise stated.

Updates

  • Added a new (experimental) feature: in-game advisor. This is a simple pop-up dialog that will appear if the player is about to do something "stupid". The idea of this advisor is to simply alert of big and costly mistakes that might tank your (new) airline quickly. This feature is mainly useful for new players but sometimes the experienced guys can make click-errors in a rush too...

At this first stage it only looks for the "used aircraft" page and the specifications of the aircraft you are about to lease or buy and will alert you in the following cases (at the point when you are about to move to the lease/buy negotiation page):
    • Aircraft does not meet noise regulation at any of your bases (availability of upgrades not checked)
    • Aircraft is too large to any of your bases (size class larger than the base size; the advanced a/c type restrictions like London City are not checked)
    • Condition is less than 70%
    • D check is expired
    • Aircraft is older than 22 years
    • Separate alert if your airline is less than 90 days old and you try to buy an used plane instead of leasing it.

When any of these conditions are met, the advisor will pop up when the player clicks to move to the leasing/buying page. He can then confirm that he wishes to proceed or cancel the action.

The set of rules the advisor looks for will be expanded in the future - ideas and feedback is welcome, adding alerts is easy since the technical basis has been done.

The advisor is enabled by default for all players but clicking on the disabling link at the alert pop-up's right corner will disable all such messages for that particular airline (a restart/new airline/new game will always start with alerts enabled).

  • "New player boosts" updated slightly. Initial Route Image of first few routes are increased a bit (~10%). Similar change done to initial operations discounts for the first routes.

Fixes

  • Blocking seats on a route did not free more cargo space, fixed.

  • Flight numbers on return flights back to base displayed incorrectly in "Airline information" page's timetable view.

  • WITT - Banda Aceh, curfew time corrected. [updated only to any new game worlds]

  • WARJ - Yogyakarta, curfew time corrected. [updated only to any new game worlds]

  • WIMM - Medan, updated airport closure and new replacement airport Kualanamu. [updated only to any new game worlds]

Staff updates, minor bugfixes

These updates are effective in all game worlds, unless otherwise stated.

Updates

  • Added option to give "one-time bonus" to your staff. This helps to boost their morale if it is low. The option to add a CEO bonus (to gain higher CEO incomes) will be added soon too.

  • Staff management links and layout at Personnel Office improved a bit.

  • Personnel Office's pilot re-training pop-up dialog has now a better base airport selector.

  • Added protection to prevent accidental double-submission of the pilot re-training tool.

  • Minor changes to staff morale calculation - in normal cases when salaries and staff numbers are ok the morale raises more slowly towards 100%.

  • Work on City Based Demand [in progress]

Fixes

  • Route editor's "create another route like this" function did not work in a (rare) case when certain payload-range limits were in place.

  • Immaculate aircraft operator achievement was incorrectly configured and did not assign properly.

  • Muscat airport (OOMS / MCT) opening date set to late 1973 (was previously "unknown" = open from early history). Previous airport in the area is the much smaller Bait Al Falaj (OOBA / BAF).

  • Sorting at Manage Routes page did not work properly for flagged routes if sorting choice was anything else than flt number (sorting logic is: first flagged routes in sorted order, then all the rest in sorted order).

  • Route editor's "Cargo configuration" slider is improved to update the visible value better when sliding it.

  • Pre-joining the Beginner's Worlds did not trigger the 7-day free trial in all cases even though player was eligible for that, fixed.

  • 'Enter to confirm' works now on Personnel Office's pilot re-training pop-up dialog.

CEO Bonus

New feature: CEO Bonus payments .. Lets you earn more virtual wealth.

Updates

  • CEO Bonus feature is now available:
    • Bonus is paid out quarterly based on the airline's previous quarter profit margin performance (the stat: "profit margin, previous financial quarter").

    • The user can set the trigger level for the bonus to activate and the amount of bonus to be paid (as percentage of the CEOs normal monthly salary).

    • The link for bonus setup can be found from staff management section: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/Office/Personnel#staffName99 The same menu can be used to disable the bonuses (by setting the values to zero).

    • The bonus is automatic and continuous unless canceled by the user. It's paid out on the 12th day of every new quarter (i.e Jan 12th, Apr 12th etc).

    • You have the option to effectively double the CEO salary using the bonus (if the airline is profitable, since a positive profit margin value is required for the activation).

    • CEO bonus is taxable (like the CEO salary), so you will not receive the full amount to your personal wealth.

  • CEO Salary level is no longer country specific. Each CEO from every country has now the same maximum salary.

  • The "Personal Wealth" achievement trigger levels are changed due to the new CEO Bonus feature. All levels require now higher earnings than before. Any existing achievements are not affected and they remain earned.

  • Added a comprehensive manual page about staff management: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/Manual/Office/Personnel/

  • Game pre-joining is now also possible directly from the Dashboard.

Fixes

  • If aircraft was in long-term storage and in maintenance (for some reason; this should not be possible normally), the maintenance did not complete ever; fixed.

  • Aircraft condition was possible to be over 100% for a short period of time (< 2 mins) due to slow database update cycled; fixed.

  • Morale change in worker bonus did not work properly if morale was negative.

Pre-scripted real world events

Updates

  • The events module has been expanded with the possibility to create pre-scripted events:

    • These events are programmed manually to certain date and area/airport and will be used to create historical real-world events into the sim (but the system will allow also manual customized events).

    • Current historical real-world events modelled into the system include (starting with this very limited dataset to make sure everything works):

      • 9/11 (replaces the current global index-based model of this event; two-day cancellations of all traffic in US and Canada, globally increased delays/cancellations and globally lower demand pax&cargo demand for some time in the future, and the demand levels will gradually increase back to normal levels (a new feature in the events module)).

      • US Air Traffic Controllers on strike (1981)

      • Fall of the Berlin Wall (1989).

      • European security conference in Helsinki (1975)

    • More data will be later on... (The idea is not to create a complete historical system but just to add some significant main events.)

    • Note that wars and similar events are currently not modelled by this system.

Usability updates

Updates

  • "Game time to Real time" automatic conversion feature (see picture #1):

    • This helps you to determine when a future game date will occur in the real time.

    • Simply hover the mouse over a game date field, and a popup balloon will appear with the time conversion.

    • Feature is currently enabled on most date fields on Aircraft area of the interface (mainly for aircraft order pages). Feedback is welcome where else this is useful.

  • Route Editor window's turn-around time interface updated (see picture #2):

    • System will now show the default turn-around time you have saved to Settings after you select the fleet group.

    • You have also the chance to save/update a new default turn-around time directly from this view, without going into Settings.

  • New Aircraft page includes now the production status information. The information text is also enhanced with more information on other pages too.

  • Ownership filter added to My Aircraft page.

  • Automatic lease extension checkbox added to Used Aircraft page's lease negotiation menu.

  • The new base opening tool at Base Airports page is reformatted for better usability (see picture #3). Added also more clearer information about allowed aircraft size classes vs. base size.

  • Updates to route editor interface (cargo) (see picture #4):

    • Route editor can be now saved with a 'enter' keypress at any time when the page/form is open (= no need to highlight a text field, like flight number).

    • New area added at the bottom called Additional settings. This contains all optional selections related to this route.

    • The seat blocking function is moved to this additional setting area.

    • Added button to quickly remove any active seat bloking with one click.

    • New selector added there, called Passengers and cargo. You have three options: "Transport both passengers and cargo", "Transport only passengers (block all cargo capacity)", "Transport only cargo (block all passenger capacity)". So you can use this selector to make your pax aircraft to fly only cargo if you wish, or skip the cargo transportation option for this route.

  • Updates to route data/view pages:

    • The new passenger and cargo blocking functionality is added to all other pages too (descriptions and data views to match the settings).

    • For example the route's detailed statistics page does not show any pax figures if the pax transportation is blocked (or flying a cargo-only aircraft).

Fixes

  • CEO salary paid out is set to be gross salary (no taxes) for the purpose of statistics. (later on there will be a separate "CEO's net wealth" that is after taxes)
