Automatic schedule / route conversion between aircraft fleet groups

A long-suggested feature is finally here: The ability to convert full aircraft schedules from one fleet group to another with a single click (by moving the schedule from aircraft to another). In other words convert your DC-9 schedule to A320 schedule with a click of a button. No need to edit all of the routes individually! This will help in the fleet transitions a lot.

Usage

  • The 'Move Schedule' window has now a new fleet selector system (including the sub-fleet selection possibility).

  • Simply choose the fleet and desired aircraft and confirm to convert the route schedules in full.

  • The system will adjust all flight times and other flight parameters for the new fleet group, in a similar manner what would happen if you would edit the route manually, and also add the route to the schedule of the new aircraft automatiically.

  • As in normal schedule moving within the same fleet group, the schedule of the aircraft receiving the flights will have to be empty.

  • You have two options on how the turnaround times are handled: Use the original departure times, or use the default turnaround time (if set for that fleet group, otherwise the option is to use the minimum time).

  • Please note that the conversion might fail if the flight times / flight speeds or turnaround times of the two aircraft groups are different. In such case an error is displayed and no flights are converted - you will need to edit the routes one by one manually in that case. There are various other sources for errors, like airport noise regulation, airport curfews, aircraft runway/payload performance etc. (= the same rules and features as in normal route editing and scheduling)

  • A new manual page about scheduling has been also added: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/Manual/Routes/Schedules/

Embraer 175-E2, 190-E2 and 195-E2 added

Updates

  • Embraer 175-E2, 190-E2 and 195-E2 models are added:

    • Deliveries start from 2018, depending on the model.

    • E190/195-E2 have several engine options, E175-E2 has one.

    • These are considered prototype models. Some of the range, payload and fuel data is not fully accurate due to the limited real data available.

    • Available on all new game worlds and the current Game Worlds #1, #2 and #4.

  • Runway requirements for all Embraer 170/175/190/195 "oldgen" models updated (mostly going up from 2-20%) based according to manufacturer's data. [effective only for new game worlds]

  • PW1000G engines (A320neo, CS100/300, MRJ70/90) renamed from PW1000G to their proper subvariants, like PW1715G and PW1919G (fleet commonality remains, as they are all of the same group). [effective only for new game worlds]

Fixes

  • ATR 72-600 higher MTOW variant had incorrect price. [effective only for new game worlds]

Aircraft size group adjustments

Updates

  • The list of size classes for aircraft fleet groups has been updated. [update is effective only for new game worlds]

  • As you know the size class of the aircraft fleet group controls various things, like the pilots it employs and the airports it can operate to. This size class list is an effective and simple model to compare and group the planes for various financial purposes. Some other costs, like landing fees, are aircraft MTOW related for more realism.

  • The list has been updated to remove some discrepancies since many new fleets and models have been added over time.

  • The classification is done manually and it depends mainly on the aircraft passenger capacity (average of the maximum pax capacity of all models in that fleet group). But there are also some exceptions that take into account the actual size/weight of the aircraft too, and also the era/age of the model is also considered: In early era the plane is "large" with less capacity than in modern times - for example the DH106 Comet is considered "large" in the sim while in modern standards it's a rather small jet. The same logic applies for example to Ju-52 and DC-3.

  • The changes are as follows (in the order of aircraft size, beginning from smallest):

    • Junkers Ju 52: Small => Medium

    • Douglas DC-2/DC-3: Small => Medium

    • Ilyushin Il-12/14: Small => Medium

    • Vickers Viking: Small => Medium

    • Aérospatiale N262: Small => Medium

    • Yakovlev Yak-40: Small => Medium

    • Boeing 307: Small => Medium

    • Short 330/360: Small => Medium

    • Bristol Wayfarer: Small => Medium

    • Saab 90 Scandia: Small => Medium

    • Curtiss-Wright C-46: Small => Medium

    • Douglas DC-4: Medium => Large

    • Tupolev Tu-134: Medium => Large

    • Armstrong Whitworth AW.650/670: Medium => Large

    • BAC One-Eleven: Medium => Large

    • Boeing 377: Medium => Large

    • Vickers VC10: Large => Very Large

  • Note that the medium/large classification is the most difficult one. The change to make BAC 1-11 and Tu-134 as Large planes is because they are comparable to the first generation ~100 seater jets from 1960s like DC-9 and Caravelle which both were large already. The second generation like Fokker 70 and BAe 146 are classified as Medium since in the 2 decades the "relative" plane size had grown already. This also brings a balance to the game since it encourages players to move to more cost effective new planes. (= Idea is to keep similar planes of the same era comparable in the size class list, and they are not necessarily comparable in size class over several decades towards new plane models)

Economy adjustments

Several small adjustments have been made to economic factors (as part of other updates, to be announced separately).

These changes are minor tweaks here and there and have no noticeable effect on running any airline. The aim has been to improve game balance and make adjustments for the new/small airlines. Updates are effective in all game worlds.

Updates
  • Loan and credit interest rate source data has been updated. The data is extended to cover also the latest years (previous update was some years ago, so interest rates from 2014 onwards have not followed real history). At the same time (due to data availability issues) the source of the data is changed. The "world bank interest rate" in the game is now based on US Fed's Effective Federal Funds Rate with some small adjustments. Due to the change in data source the interest rates in game are about 0.2 - 0.5% lower than before (the game interest rates update monthly, so it takes a while for the new data to take effect).

  • Banks payment of interest to your cash balance is adjusted to have the margin from weekly prime rate -7.5% instead of -7%. Minimum rate is 0.05% instead of 0.1%.

  • Loan interest margins for loans taken out from bank adjusted slightly. Lowest available margin for the best credit rating is now "prime interest rate +2.75%" (was previously 2.3%). Lowest credit rating has the margin of 11% (previously 11.5%).

  • Pre-selected loan amounts for "Take out loan" menu improved a bit (better roundings etc.).

  • The maximum amount of allowed loan contracts per airline changed slightly. Lower limit is now 4 instead of 6.

  • Company Image rises a bit more slowly than before when CI is over 50% (no changes in the costs, only in the change rate).

  • The "new airline boost" for Company Image is now taken into account when calculating the initial CI change rate. Previously it was possible for the CI to stay "stuck" for rather long time due to the initial boost, causing some confusions.

  • Maximum "new airline boost" on Company Image is now initial CI 30 instead of 25. (when this is achieved depends on the game settings and when the airline joins)

  • Mitsubishi MRJ certification is pushed back to 2020. [update is effective only in new games]

New game worlds extended up to 2036

Updates

  • The master settings have been updated so that extending game worlds up to year 2036 is now possible.

  • The basic economic indexes has now values from 1948 to 2036 for passenger demand, fuel, inflation and interests (these form the basis of the economy calculations).

  • Only new game worlds are affected. For example the upcoming Game World #3 will be played all the way to early 2036.

Other updates

  • Aircraft in C/D maintenance can be scrapped without cancelling the maintenance check.

  • Inflation index source data has been updated (ref. also update to loan interest rates in previous changelog entry). Last update of this data was many years ago, so the real history of inflation has not been followed during 2008-2016, but now this data is available and in use (in the game worlds that use historial inflation index - many games use a slightly adjusted version). Due to this change you may note slight changes in the prices/inflation.

Fixes
  • The left-hand submenu did not work for Chrome (in various pages and areas); fixed.

  • Embraer E-2 series fuel usage adjusted very slightly upwards.

  • Aircraft production slot view did not always show enough slots into the future; fixed.

  • Chart / graphs system updated (some fixes and changes in the background).

Aircraft data changes, minor new features, small fixes

Updates
  • Hawker Siddeley HS121 Trident data checked/updated fully: [affects only new game worlds]
    • Trident 1 model added, baseline
    • Trident 1A model added, increased fuel capacity (prototype variant)
    • Trident 1C data updated
    • Trident 1E model added, increased pax capacity
    • Trident 2E data updated
    • Trident 3B data updated
    • Trident Super 3B model added, increased pax capacity

    • Prices, fuel consumption, cargo capacity, runway requirements and payload/range data checked for all HS121 models. Cruise speed updated to Mach 0.88.

  • Seating capacities for McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and Boeing 717 adjusted: [affects only new game worlds]
    • DC-9-1x, new max capacity 109 pax
    • DC-9-3x, new max capacity 127 pax
    • DC-9-4x, new max capacity 128 pax
    • B717, new max capacity 134 pax

  • Bombardier CRJ fleet group cruise speed is now Mach 0.78 (previously 0.74 since CRJ100 and CRJ200 cruised at that speed, but since all later models (more numerous) use M.78 it was reasonable change now). [affects only new game worlds]

  • Chapter 3 noise regulation added to Hong Kong and Macau. Both are effective from mid-2002. [this change affects only games that have not reached 2002 yet, and all new game worlds]

  • Automatic aircraft registration logic is changed for more realism for USA, Colombia and Japan (and countries using the "123AB" / "123A" / "1234A" format). The automation will now increment first the numbers, and only after that the letters: 100AA, 101AA, 102AA .. 999AA, and then 001AB, 002AB ... etc. [affects only new game worlds]

  • New aircraft ordering system has more logic built into it. The system stores now the individual discounts each order receives, and this allows the system to calculate the price better when later editing the order (previously discounts were not stored and editing the order afterwards was usually costly if you got a good discount). [affects only orders made after 1st April 2017 real time]

  • Aircraft in long-term storage (owned a/c) can now be used as loan securities.

  • Route editor's slot handling is updated so that you can now choose to get slots only for one leg of the route. Previously if you ticked "Do not buy slots for this airport" you had to get all the slots when next time editing the route but now you can do that in increments.

Fixes
  • When leasing used a/c and getting an error, the "automatically renew lease" checkbox did not stay checked.

  • In some cases it was possible to assign a registration to aircraft even it was already in use, fixed.

  • Registration number sorting improved for my aircraft page.

  • Airline score statistic displayed a blank line in some cases, fixed.

  • Aircraft upgrade system error message made a bit clearer.

  • Fixed an error where the final loan repayment was sometimes too big compared to the remaining amount of the loan.

  • Error message for route editor's "too many unassigned slots" message has more/better information.

  • Fixed a rare error with Chromebook OS when full order of new aircraft was not submitted to server.

Aircraft conversions, other minor changes and fixes

Updates
  • Conversions of aircraft models have been added. These will serve mainly in the pax to cargo conversion role (where an aircraft is permantently modified to carry only cargo).

    The conversion will modify the entire aircraft as a new model which will have new characteristics, e.g. ATR 42-300 => ATR 42-320F. Conversions are available only to existing/used aircraft and such models cannot be ordered as new from the factory. Conversion is also permantent (not reversible), and available only to your owned aircraft (and currently naturally only for game worlds that have cargo enabled).

    Currently only a couple of test models exist for this feature but more will be added later. Brief manual page is also added: https://www.airwaysim.com/game/Manual/Aircraft/Convert/

  • Added ATR 42-320F and ATR 72-210F (conversions, see above).

  • Added latest / correct Libyan flag.

  • Aberdeen airport runway length updated.

  • B787-3 picture updated.

  • ICAO type codes for A319/320/321neo and B737 MAX 7/8/9 updated.

  • Some more cargo related updates to the route editor.

Fixes
  • Time conversions (game time to real time) fixed for early era.

  • Aircraft order editing did in some cases provide incorrect cost calculation.

  • Embraer E195-E2 runway requirement fixed.

  • UAAH airport IATA code corrected.

  • Autofill disabled for route editor flight number field.

Bug fixes

Fixes
  • When changing aircraft seat configuration the cargo capacity on existing routes did not update.

  • Minor changes to Dornier 928 fuel figures. [only for new games]

  • DHC-6-400 cargo volume corrected. [only for new games]

Aircraft updates

Lots of updates to our aircraft selection. Cargo aircraft will be available today in both cargo games, other updates affect any future game worlds only.

Updates
  • Boeing 737-200C Adv added:
    • This is the factory-built cargo variant of the 737-200 Adv. Originally usable as convertible pax/freighter, but our systems don't support that yet (so full cargo only at the moment).

    • Regular passenger 737-200 and 737-200Adv are also convertible into 737-200C Adv which will be the sole freighter model for 737-200 series, in order to keep things simple. In real life full cargo aftermarket conversions were dubbed as 737-200F but it's more or less the same thing (sans the quick conversion) so it's not added as a separate model.

    • 737-200C Adv comes in AirwaySim only with one engine and one weight variant because the pax->cargo conversion model limits this; it's the JT8D-17R and 58.1tn(kg) weight (i.e. the highest 737-200Adv spec).

    • Available a few years after passenger 737-200Adv's entry into service.

  • Boeing 737-300F added:
    • Conversion model from B737-300. Offered with the CFM56-3B2 engine and the 61.2tn MTOW (highest options of standard 737-300).
    • Available from 2002.

  • Boeing 737-400F added:
    • Conversion model from B737-400. Offered with the CFM56-3C1 engine and the 68.1tn MTOW (highest options of standard 737-400).
    • Available from 2002.

  • Saab 340AF and 340BF added:
    • Conversions from Saab 340A and 340B, available from 2002.

  • Short 360-300F:
    • Conversion model from Short 360-300 (conversions from 360-100 and 360-200 to 360-300F also available). Available from 1999.

  • Bombardier Cseries now allowed at London City. [all current and future games]

  • Ilyushin Il-18D and Il-18E noise level changed from 1 to 2. [only for new games]

  • Breguet 763/765 ICAO code changed (B76P/B76S). [only for new games]

  • Baade 152 cruise speed and manufacturer name changed. [only for new games]

  • Tupolev Tu-114 turnaround time changed. [only for new games]

  • Boeing 737-200Adv entry into service date changed. [only for new games]

Updates to aircraft conversions and many minor data fixes

Updates
  • Aircraft conversions are now included in the aircraft history data.

  • AI Brokers can now convert aircraft (e.g. from pax to cargo). The conversion happens only once the a/c has been listed as the original variant many times on used aircraft market without being sold, or it is getting old (>22yo). This is a step before the a/c is scrapped.

  • Aircraft conversion specifications updated:
    • Conversion includes always a D check.

    • Durations are adjusted (about 1.25x the length of D check).

    • Conversion cost is changed to incorporate costs of the D check and the additional conversion cost (actual cost depends on the specs of the model).

    • Conversion increases the aircraft book value (ref. D check), and thus also conversion cost is not a direct taxable expense anymore (= same rules as D check expense calculation; i.e. after 25yo age it is expensed immediately).

  • D check durations adjusted: Very small aircraft 20 days, small aircraft 30 days.

  • McDonnell Douglas DC-10 and MD-11 fleet groups have been combined.

  • Fokker F.27 and F50 fleet groups have been combined.

Fixes
  • New aircraft order editing price calculation had minor issues, fixed.

  • Aircraft registration format for Taiwan is corrected (B-12345).

  • Airport names corrected for: Wichita Falls Municipal, Augusta Regional

  • Airport curfews corrected for: Kaohsiung

  • Airport construction dates updated for: Seoul-Gimpo, Kobe, Augusto C. Sandino

  • Airport IATA codes added/correcred for: Fonte Boa, Humaitá, Tapuruquara, São Paulo de Olivença, Hilton Head.

  • Czech Republic renamed as Czechia from 2016.

  • Douglas DC-3 max capacity changed to 32 pax.

  • ISO 3166 two letter country codes for South and North Korea corrected.

All of these data updates are applicable only to new game worlds.

Various updates/fixes to cargo features

Updates
  • Medium Cargo can now be transported also by freighter aircraft of size class medium and upwards. New full definition is: "Medium Cargo - Requires aircraft of size class 'Large' or larger, or a dedicated freighter aircraft (cargo only) of size class 'Medium' or larger"

  • Fokker F.27 data updates: [only for new games]
    • Mk 300 and Mk 400 Combiplanes have been updated to have maximum capacity of 30 instead of 48 pax and cargo hold volume of 16.65 m3 instead of 7 m3. Flexible combi cargo/pax solutions are not supported currently, so this is the only way to make them realistic.

    • Mk 600 Cargo variant added. This is a conversion variant (not produced by factory). Normal Mk 600 and also the Mk 200 and Mk 400 can be converted into this model. In real life Mk 600 was a quick-change variant (pax & cargo) but such configurations are not supported. (There have been also full cargo conversions of the Mk 600.)

    • Mk 500 Cargo variant added. This is also a conversion variant. Normal Mk 500s can be converted into the pure freighter.

  • Bristol Britannia fleet group min. turnaround time is now 50 minutes. [only for new games]

  • de Havilland DH.106 Comet 4 max.pax capacity changed to 80 (also other minor weight data changes to 4 and 4A). [only for new games]

Fixes
  • It was possible to assign Heavy Cargo to passenger aircraft if that particular a/c fleet had full cargo aircraft available, fixed.

  • Route editor's cargo ratio selector did not always keep the changes for Heavy Cargo.

  • Route editor did not always calculate the new true cargo capacity when the cargo ratio was changed for Heavy Cargo.

  • Fleet selector dropdown did not always display the full name of the aircraft model.

A lot of new cargo aircraft to the early era, together with missing cargo data to all remaining passenger aircraft. More cargo models on the way!

All updates listed in this entry are effective only in new game worlds.

Updates

  • The following new cargo aircraft are added:

    • Boeing 727-100C [factory-new combi version of B727]

    • Boeing 727-100F [conversion to full freighter, available for B727-100 and B727-100C]

    • Boeing 727-200F Adv [factory-new cargo model]

    • Boeing 727-200AF [cargo conversion and engine replacement of B727-200Adv]

    • Douglas DC-3F [cargo conversion of pax model]

    • Douglas DC-4F [cargo conversion of pax model]

    • Boeing 377 Freighter [factory-new cargo model, also available as conversion from pax B377]

    • Bristol Type 170 Mk 31 Freighter [factory-new cargo variant of the basic Mk 1 version, conversion from Mk 1 also available]
