Mobile device testers needed (long term plans)
« on: August 07, 2014, 02:33:29 PM »
As you may know the new UI is also mobile compatible (for tablets mainly) but since the mobile usage increases heavily, I am planning to even further improve the mobile usage 'experience' on the game interface.

Since I cannot own all possible devices I am looking for a list of volunteers to test the improvements and changes. This consists mainly of opening some interface pages on the test server at any requested time and taking a few screen captures and emailing them to me. So no game play involved and very fast stuff to do...

I have yet no plans or schedule for the changes, but would like still to compile a sort of list of people and their devices already for further use.

So please just reply here with the list of your mobile devices that you can use, and I will then contact you all later when/if needed.

(I am mainly looking to get data on as many different devices and models as possible, so no need for 10 iPad3 testers for example)

I have a

Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3") to offer and soon, in 1-2 month when it's released, a
Samsung Galaxy Note IV (most probably 5.7")

Both run the latest official Android version and both are the official German hardware revision.

I run Surface Pro Windows Tablet Mode, Windows Phone 8, IOS 7. So if you need help let me know.

offcourse you can also always use the developer tools in chrome to emulate the devices that's what we use for most of our mobile projects.

Hi

Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 (Android 4.3 until Samsung remember to update to KitKat)
HTC One (4.4.2) which I use a lot for AWS
and I use one of the kids' Nexus 7 (4.4.x) if needed, and I can get them off them.

Cheers.

Yea, there are different emulators but I've found that often they really don't show the proper results, especially when I'm working with the fluid css layouts here.

And this multi-device testing is anyway for the final testing, after I've done my work, to see that they really work as they should (as I just noticed that the layout is different for iPad2 and iPad Air, latter not working as intended..).

I know you use Firefox, but Chrome has built in emulation where you can spoof the user agent and see the viewport, at least for mobile users running chrome (aka a recent version of android).  I have found that with my Nexus that the resolution is so high that I can just turn my phone and get the desktop version of responsive sites, which is what I personally prefer.
