Commonality - Leasing Out
« on: January 10, 2011, 11:54:49 AM »
A quick query.  If I lease out all of a fleet type, do I still have to pay commonality costs on that type?  The scenario - I am beginning to upgrade my fleet, and will have spare aircraft of a still in production type which is in demand which I own, as well as spare leased aircraft which I will redeploy or return.  I am therfore looking at options for disposal of the owned aircraft.  Leasing could be profitable, but only if I can dump the commonality costs - if not, I will sell.

Grateful for any thoughts.

No. If you are not in possession of an airplane, you don't pay costs on it.

Planes that are leased out or for sale/lease are excluded from fleet commonality calculations and automated C/D checks are not performed.
