Changelog / Updates to AirwaySim v.1.2

This thread contains information about updates and changes made to the latest AirwaySim game engine version (1.2).

All of these updates are live and available in the running game worlds.


This is a closed thread used only to preview the changes so please post any questions and comments to the General forum. For earlier feature previews please see this thread.

New features:

  • Aircraft / Global statistics page is updated slightly with information about number of planes scrapped and planes for sale by brokers.

    (if you didn't know - the planes do not disappear anywhere, each plane that has been produced has a traceable history and they rotate in the world according to what players and the AI plane brokers do)

New features:

  • Further adjustments to used aircraft purchasing. The system's restrictions are as follows (copied from a manual page that is being written), latest change in italic:

    QuoteRestrictions for purchasing or leasing new aircraft:

       * When each game world starts the first turn is 24 hours long to allow all players to join. During that day each airline is allowed to make only two orders for aircraft (new or used). In other words you can order two used aircraft - or for example one used aircraft and an order for new planes if you have the money.

       * On other occasions the restrictions are:

             o Maximum of two leases / purchases of used aircraft per game day

             o AND maximum of 6 leases / purchases of used aircraft within last 7 game days.

    The restrictions are made to model the limits in airline growth rates that are coming from staffing, crew training, paperwork and other administrative work.

New features:

  • Used aircraft market is refreshed now at fully random times, refresh interval is also random.

    The used a/c market is refreshed approx every 0.5 - 2.5 game days from aircraft coming in from AI aircraft brokers. These planes are from bankrupt airlines that have been returned to banks/leasing companies.

New feature:

  • Actual fuel usage on routes depends now also on the actual number of seats sold. As you may know the lighter the plane is the less fuel it consumes, and vice versa. This is now also modeled into the system, taking into account each flight individually each day. So in other words if you carry full planes you will see increase in fuel costs, compared to airlines with emptier planes, expect some +/-15% differences on individual flights.

    NOTE - this feature is not YET live. There will be some other changes and they will be added to the live server at the same time (just wrote this here already so I won't forget).

  • Yield calculation added to route management (= Revenue per Passenger Mile). This is gross profit / RPK (revenue pax km, or gross profit / RPM if using miles).

  • ASK/ASM and RPK/RPM and load factor statistics are now visible on Airline Statistics (/Routes) page.

    The before-mentioned fuel usage vs. aircraft weight calculation is also online now.

New features:

  • Ability to dismiss certain info messages in game view. Some frequently appearing message boxes have now a (X) icon on the right corner - this allows you to (permanently) close & hide this message.

  • Credit rating and Max loan amount calculations have been updated a bit. The values now update daily and the effect of existing loans to them is changed a bit. System will be further improved later on...

  • RASK/RASM, Revenue per Available Seat Km/Mile, statistic added to routes page.

    (the manage routes page is getting crowded and the financial details will probably be split to two separate pages soon)

  • Antonov Av-158 added to database (not available in current worlds).

  • Small usability update to new a/c order page, as requested here.

New features:

These updates are available in running v.1.2 games too. Any further airport updates will be made only to games starting later.

  • Following airports added: MGGT, RJNS, VICG, ORBI, KJMS  (more later..)

  • Adjusted pax demands on some routes.

These updates do not affect the running game worlds:

  • Updates to opening / closure dates of some airports.

  • Updates to movement/slot counts to some US airports.

  • Adjustments to pax distribution system ... you cannot now just start a company and pack a plane full of C/F seats and get a full or half-full plane (a known starting technique).

Change / update / partly also bugfix:

  • Pax distribution updated a bit, changes may be visible on routes with low Route Image, combined with low Company Image .. Previously the pax didn't distribute properly in some cases on new or newish routes (if you had many), or new(ish) routes had too many pax compared to low CI/RI (when only single route to a destination) ...

  • Rule change for new airlines:  New airline cannot be based on an airport with more than 6 airlines already HQ'ed there (regardless of airport size). This is to guide players to choose other airports than the majors and to make their life easier...

    Further changes & smarter systems on this will be made later on.

Minor updates:

  • Alliance view page has airline sort function.

  • Airline list on Alliance view page is reorganized with airline value field added.

  • Added "Whole world" selector to airport info / route open dropdown selectors (country/area selection boxes).

  • Added previous week absolute LF%, fuel, CI values to Dashboard and Routes pages for comparison (change % is the relative percentage change between two weeks still).

  • PHNL (Honolulu) is allowed as tech/refuel stop.

  • Max. turnaround time at outstations is now 18h instead of 12h to allow longer overnight stops.

  • (Minor bugfixes done also during the last months.)

  • Technical change to lease extension system. If you have leases tagged manually "not to be renewed", you may wish to check that these settings are still OK after the update (should be, but double-check ..).

Minor updates:

  • Alliance score system introduced. There will be a manual page soon explaining this in a bit more detail but in short: it is based on two scoring functions, variable score and cumulative score.

     - Cumulative score is gained for every operational year of the alliance and lost for member bankruptcies, staff strikes and other negative events. For example member bankrupt scores -10pts, strike thread is -3pts, actual strike is -6pts, fine for maintenance violation can be -3-7pts etc.

     - Variable scores are counted from stats visible on 'Airline statistics' page (currently these are fleet utilization, profit margin, load factor and number of transported pax) - top 20 airlines are awarded scores, first gets 20, second 19 .. etc. If this member is in an alliance, the score is counted towards the total alliance score (otherwise not). Also each member brings in one additional point for this score (25 members => +25 in score ..etc).

     - Variable+Cumulative score = Alliance total score that is displayed at alliance pages.

    The alliance score is used to rank alliances between each others. The alliance rating remains still and it is used to determine how the virtual AWS passengers rate and like that alliance (= how large it is etc). Alliance score has no effect to pax preferences.

    Scoring system is still subject to changes and adjustments.

    Scores for game worlds prior Alliance Challenge and Beginner World #9 are not completely accurate, they miss a long period of the cumulative scores.


  • Alliance rating calculation is adjusted a bit so that reaching 100% is harder.

  • Alliance membership cost maximum can be now 1.0% instead of 0.8%

  • (Minor bugfixes done also during the last month.)




(edit: note, that a small adjustment to alliance scoring was made about 30 mins after I posted this, so the displayed scores will change a bit on next day change.)

  • A popup of the Game Rules is added to the page where a new airline is created. User is required to "read & agree" to the rules (checkbox).

  • Game rules updated, information about unfair use of airport slots is changed a bit and example penalty of that rule violation is added.
