Does the condition of the aircraft have any relation to image/income?

Yes and no.

AC in poor condition is more cancellations and higher maintenance costs thus reducing your profit.
Crappy seating reduces the nuber of PAX whishing to travel with your airline over longer distances. But you can get more PAX in your plane.

It is a matter of been there, done that and got the T-shirt. just see how it goes.
