The entire documentation and knowledge base of AirwaySim has been moved to a new platform at https://manual.airwaysim.com/.
The updated documentation has a modern and mobile-compatible layout, search capability and is also very easy to maintain from admin's point-of-view.
Please let us know if something is missing, or if the manual can be improved to help the new users!
We have made various small updates to the AirwaySim software over the last weeks. As usual, you can find the details from the Changelog.
Here are the highlights:
A new Beginner's World #1 scenario is now open!

AirwaySim has always two concurrent Beginner's World scenarios running (BW#1 and BW#2). They both use the same settings and same time frame.
Our beginner game series is aimed for all newbies and other players wishing to test different playing styles in an easier environment. Duration of one scenario is always approximately 60 real days. The scenario runs for ~10 game years with a speed of 25 minutes per day, and all of AirwaySim's main features are included in these scenarios.
When a BW scenario ends, a new one will start within a few days. The two scenarios are running in parallel so that there is always one BW scenario start every month.
The entire website, core and backend systems of AirwaySim environment are planned to have a major technical and visual upgrade. The project is internally dubbed as "AirwaySim v2".
The current site and systems run on a custom-build website engine which has its origins way back in the history, and it has served its purpose well but was a bit difficult to upgrade. During the pandemic years our company received contract work for aviation software development, and this made also possible to start the development of a totally new version of our custom website engine from the ground up.
This new system is being implemented into AirwaySim too, allowing a new and modern backend system to be taken into use with a much needed refresh to the overall interface and compatibility of the website. Codewise the new version is also much cleaner and better structured, and takes better use of modern systems and ready-made software components, easing up the maintenance and development. As a very important step, the new system will bring in for example a fully mobile-compatible layout.
The current AirwaySim game interface and layout will be merged into the new system, and for some time we will use a "hybrid" solution where the main layout of the site and game will use the new backend (v2) with mobile-compatible menus and layout, while the game interface itself will still use the current (non-mobile) layout (v.1.4/1.5), but the pages and features of the game will be gradually replaced with the new (v2) code and layout.

A new software version is being rolled out into AirwaySim games today. During this time the games will be paused one-by-one. You can find details of the progress from the forums and from our Discord.
The update itself is a major technical update to the backend structures related to routes, schedules and aircraft. The whole structure and large parts of the code on flights/routes have been changed and updated to better suit how the game has developed over years, and what plans there are for the future.
You can read more details from the game Changelog.

We wish everyone Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Thanks for playing AirwaySim and being part of our virtual airline manager community!
The year 2022 has been unexpectedly busy for the developer since the airline industry has bounced back from Covid very rapidly. This meant nearly 800 flying hours in the real-world workplace, added with business degree studies, and IT projects for a local airline. But year 2023 promises more time for AirwaySim development since the next year will include only part-time flying, and completion of the studies and other major projects during winter.
An open beta testing of some new features (technical system changes) will be available soon - stay tuned for details!
As always as part of our Christmas traditions the code XMAS2022 will give you a 15% discount until Dec 27th 23.59 UTC for your next Credits purchases.
Be sure to subscribe to our Facebook page for the latest updates, and join our Discord chat to meet other AirwaySim's airline managers.

This round of the epic-length AirwaySim airline simulation scenario, Airline Generations, is now open!
This is one of our three concurrent epic-length airline sim scenarios, starting in the 1950s and running all the way into year 2035. An ultimate challenge for virtual airline managers!
This game world follows the standard settings for long AirwaySim games:
Game play related settings specific for this scenario:
The start-up settings for Airline Generations game will feature a bit harder initial setup than usually, with a) somewhat limited aircraft availability, b) a bit more expensive airport slots, and c) a bit higher fuel price than usually. But still within the normal standard game world difficulty range.
On the plus side, the amount of airport slots should be plentiful and also the cargo demand is slightly elevated compared to the very, very early starting date of 1950. Also airports of Durban (FADN), Johannesburg (FAJS), Helsinki - Vantaa (EFHK), Greater Southwest International (KGSW) and Moscow - Sheremetyevo (UUEE) are already opened, in contrast to the real history since these airport opened in 1951, just to allow a few more reasonable starting airport choices for the long game.

Due to admin's other commitments, there is a small change in Airline Generations game starting time:
Tomorrow, 26th November at 11 UTC (was 15 UTC).
The first day is 24hrs long with time in pause mode, as usual, so there is no rush to join at the first minute.
