It's 1978.

Some new aircraft families available for order:

Airbus A300, A310
BAC One-Eleven
Boeing 727, 737, 747, 757, 767
BAe 146
de Havilland Canada DHC-6, DHC-7
Fokker F.27, F.28
Lockheed L-1011
McDonnell Douglas DC-9, DC-10, MD-81

Something available on the used market at the moment, of course sometimes also more modern aircraft:

Boeing 707, 727
Douglas DC-6, DC-8
Sud Aviation Caravelle
Vickers VC10

In general, I don't find it a problem that the aircraft are, well, from 30+ years ago. The only limiting thing is range, the maximum is around 5300nm with the aircraft currently available. IMHO the limitations of the aircraft make the game more interesting.

Well, in Jet Age 1 LHR is all red, no available slots at all. But most other big airports still have quite good situation.
I would try to find some place where isn't any other airlines based, at least no big ones. For example Las Vegas seems to be empty. (But on the other hand there is lots of incoming traffic, donno if there is any demand left.)
