Newfoundland Airlines have today ordered 150 BAE systems Avro jets, after they failed to secure a more speedy delivery of Fokkers.
"We are an ambitious airline and we want to grow into new markets. Indeed this month we opened up a new base in Minneapolis. Unfortunately, with the BAC retirement and the relatively slow pace of deliveries from Fokker, route growth had ground to a halt.
Make no mistake we love the Fokker planes and their economics, but this new order maintains our drive for expansion, and will keep CASM down. As we claimed launch discount on all 3 models ordered, we're especially confident they can be an excellent part of our fleet"
The CEO confirmed all planes ordered will be heading to their new base in MSP, whilst the Fokkers will continue to serve routes out of MCO and SLC, as well as in MSP.
