A340-200 v 777-200ER

After checking fuel burn and price of the plane. The 340 seems like an absolute no brainer, it flies a bit slower and uses one more cabin crew but has the same fuel burn, longer range, and is a whole 737NG cheaper. Where's the discrepancy in price coming from?

The more a plane is in demand, the higher its price. And everyone wants the Rolls-Royce of Ultra long haul, the magnificent 777. That's all. If noone bought it, it would be cheap. It' won't be the case. Many companies will kill themselves overpaying those babies, and man others will conquer the world with them. They are for the best players. I'm flying Fokkers instead.

Hah, well people don't seem to need the Rolls-Royce of long haul since there's 11x as many orders for 330/340s than 777s. I think Boeing dropped the ball on GW3.

There are several benefits to the 777 over A340. The 777 is more efficient on a seat mile basis, it has a significantly longer range (about 600nm in a normal cinfiguration, not the factory default) and the 777-300ER and 777-200LR share the fleet group, both of which are the best in their class for seat mile cost (77W) and range (77L).
