Aircraft Production News

"McDonnell Douglas has today launched a new engine variant for their McDonnell Douglas MD-81 aircraft.

Pratt & Whitney JT8D-217 engines are now available to be placed on new orders and also to be upgraded to previous orders of this aircraft.

The engines feature a fuel burn of 3460 kg / hr and allow a range of 1950 nm."

In the MD-81 info page, the range for the new -217 engines is stated as 1630 nm. I don't know which one is correct, maybe it has something to do with the cargo calculations.

Anyway, I'm very happy for the attention the DC-9/MD-80/MD-90/MD-95 has received lately. :) Just hoping for more MD-95/717 versions now.
