The Comet 1 and 2 are terrible. The 3 is ok, the 4 is acceptable until the mid 60's. Think of it like this. The Comet 1 burns almost twice as much fuel per passenger as the 707...

Since the game only runs until 1967, I'm not sure how much converting fleets to jets is really going to help. Certainly the big carriers won't be able to replace any significant portion of their fleet.

There are a few things that make this game different from long games.

- There is little LH demand.
- There is a lot of SH and MH demand.
- It ends in 1967.

The fuel prices are stable and low until 1967. Having a first generation jet in the early 1950's makes sense. The Comet can do 3 routes (500 NM to 1000 NM) between 5am to 11pm vs 2 for the Viscount for instance. The Comet will "grow" in seat capacity with the next versions, easy to transfer the schedules. Also, if the player wants to use 707s / DC8s in the 1960's the schedules will easily fit.

Makes sense.

This is true, Lotus. I forgot it ends before any major fuel spike. A transition to the more efficient Comets or 707/DC-8 actually makes the Comet 1 and 2 good moves.
