Prority Tech-Stop Shortcut List
« on: February 14, 2014, 09:31:25 AM »
Most airports have a set of tech-stop airports they will use 95% of the time. For example out of Los Angeles these are Iqaluit, Cold Bay and Petropavlosk. Using the searching tool causes traffic and costs time.

It would be good to have a shortcut list of a maximum of maybe 5 or 8 tech-stop airports. This list could be created in the Settings Menu http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Info/Settings#SettingsAirline  - a similiar list like you want to open a base or airline.

If you've saved your shortcut list and you create a route you can normally search for tech-stop airports like now - or you simply click on one of the shortcuts and instantly without another popup or whatever this shortcut airport is set in as both legs first techstop.

Example screen:

Aside from the convenience, it would help noobs in optimizing their tech stops.  Last time (as a relative noob) I did it, it took hours to set up 7 day schedules and this was a big part of the "learning curve".  Not sure it is something that should be a natural advantage to veteran players.

Not sure it needs to be a fixed list vs a list generated based on range to destination and aircraft (runway length is a consideration).

I'm not sure if it really helps beginners because in my idea you have to fill up your shortcut list of techstops yourself, so finding them.

It's a simple convenience thing and it also reduces traffic on sami's server due to less page loads.

You can use a shortcut by using this URL:

http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Routes/Open/base/dest/tech,tech/tech,tech/?go=1

So for a flight from Paris to Tahiti with a tech stop in Ontario you'd do:

http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Routes/Open/LFPO/NTAA/KONT/KONT/?go=1

If you wanted multiple tech stops, such as SDF and ONT then you'd do:

http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Routes/Open/LFPO/NTAA/KSDF,KONT/KONT,KSDF/?go=1

Personally, I can't stand the open route dialog when trying to create a tech stopped route.

I'm aware of the URL workarounds but it's a) more work than my solution b) doesn't fit unto the UI.

I get an error message with each of these:  "Not enough airports selected"

Try this:
http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Routes/Open/base/dest/tech/tech/

You can also save those links, for example this:
http://www.airwaysim.com/game/Routes/Open/KLAX/EGLL/CYFB/CYFB/
Ok...works, thanks!

So the idea of this workaround is to bookmark these links for quick reference...got it.

On your original request, I thought it was calculated vs a saved list of "favorites".  Good idea the saved list.  But, yes, one would have to "find" them first.  Might be nice to have a special tech stop search that could be used to flag ones to include in this list.
