Ordering New Aircraft..need advise
« on: October 10, 2013, 10:58:39 PM »
So everything is going okay so far. Started out my airline with All DC-10s and 767s for crossing the Atlantic. I already ordered 40 A321-200 to start building a Domestic Network. But time to find something to replace the DC10s and 767-200.

I hit a point now that I need to order some new aircraft and start replacing my current international fleet.

Ideally, I would like to go with the A330-300 which seems like the perfect fit.
Also, I could eventually get A340 for ultra long haul flights and still be part of the A330 family for cost savings. 4 engines on a A340 vs a B777 will cost more though, so is being in the same family better than having to maintain 2 more engines per aircraft? Will having 4 engines ALLOW for faster flight times since they can fly direct without having to follow ETOPS routing? HOWEVER, production slots are so filled right now, its going to take about 4 years before I even get the A330 aircraft. I don't know if my 22 year old DC-10s could last another 4 more years!

Or I could go with the 767-300ER/400ER, which I could get in half the time(about 1.5-2 years wait right now)

OR...

I could go with the A300-600R and get one in 3 months!

Maybe staying with Airbus would be better since I have 40 A321 incoming?

Whats your opinion? Should I...
1) Order A330 and wait 4 years
2) Order 767-400ER and wait 2 Years
3) Order A300-600R and wait 3 months!

I would say, if you already have 2 LH fleets, don't add a 3rd one, unless you are very close to phasing out DC-10s.

As far as all Airbus or all Boeing, it makes absolutely no difference in AWS.  Only fleet group commonality matters, manufacturer commonality does not matter.

I'm trying to phase out both the DC-10 and the 767.

That may be a difficult thing to do, depending on number aircraft you need to replace.

A330/340 fleet has more flexibility than either DC-10 or 767, but it is very short supply.

Going from 767 to A300 group is a downgrade.

So realistically, you can't really be phasing out DC-10 and 767 and be replacing it with nothing...

All factors considered, yes. However, the A300-600R is actually more efficient than the 762/763s if you don't need the longer range.

True, but then, the money printing edition - 764 arrives.

If you want some LH, get A330/A340, as they cover almost everything from EWR, and take only 1 fleet

I got a mix of B777 and B767 when I was basing in JFK and EWR last MT, that was because I was very aggressive in LH

If you were starting from nothing, A330 might be better for you.  But you have zero A330s, and the first one you can have delivered is in 2003.

On the other hand, you already have 12 767 and you can get the first new one delivered in 2001.  So I would go with 767 from this starting point.  Replace the aging DC-10s with it, and when you are close to having the DC-10 phased out, you can get a 2nd LH fleet (either A330 or 777)

Sunshine Airways has made an order of 20 Boeing 767-200/300/400 aircraft.

The order details are:

    Boeing 767-400ER

        Number of aircraft: 20
        Financing: Operational lease
        First delivery: 01-Nov-2001

and out of curiosity, how long does it take for a game mentor to accept a mentoring request? I put "request" mentoring from the start of the age and no one has accepted :(

It is kind of random.  I think the it may be the hardest to get a mentor for MT world, since you can't have another MT player as a mentor, and MT worlds have the most players.

And players can only mentor one airline at a time in a world.

Also how do I prepare for the increase in cost?

I mean...the DC10s are cheap and cost only $600k/per month. The Leases on the new 767-400ER are closer to 1.6million/month in lease cost. That concerns me.

They also need one fewer pilot, which is not an insignificant cost when based in the US.  Not to mention burning a crapton less fuel and costing less in maintenance.  With cheap fuel at the moment it is entirely possible they will cost you more than the DC-10s, esp until you can expand to use the extra pilots freed up.  However it's not going to be that full 1m per month and the 767s will actually be cheaper as fuel rises.  30% lower fuel consumption can add up fast as fuel goes up.
