Does the game react to slot availability in an airport ?
I looked at London Heathrow and there is no slot available. Will there be later on? (I mean an airport expansion that bring a decent amount of slot)
It does sound that there is a monopoly in that airport......will it be possible in the future for a new airline to start there ?
As of now it sounds impossible and we are only 4.5 years after the start.

they will release slot in random interval. The question is are you able to catch them before others do?

I have seen in previous game where airline managed to start in a slot locked airport and became a 'thorn' to the monopoly player. Granted, it is unlikely you can topple him over unless he did something real wrong or you get extreme lucky with slots.

sami started a discussion in the other forum about this potential issue...

Even if more slots will appear in the future, what kind of chance do you see as a newcomer chosing LHR? This airport, along some other big ones around the world will stay slot constrained regardless of their actual slot number. And if some slots would be left, there would be no way to go because of huge competition. This won´t change until city-based demand will take the pressure of LHR because you can use another London airport instead.

Short answer: No.
LHR is slot restricted and extremely sought after, it is difficult enough to get a flight in there from another base, starting a new airline in LHR will be impossible unless one of the airlines there bankrupts.

If you want to get a foothold in LHR, you need to be there in the beginning. If you go in there after a couple game years have passed, you will just stand no chance at all in picking up slots when they drop as the other players who started in the beginning will already have such an excessive cash flow going that they can just pick up all of the slots without issues.

A way to solve this issue would be to have an airport expansion if more than 90% of the slot of an airport are used for more than 1 or 2 years. The expansion could add slot without passenger. This would make the game more competitive and avoid situation were a player gain a monopoly.

There are already topics about that, please do a search. Airports like LHR are not recommendable for a newbie-start-up in any case, slot restricted or not. Those airports are always the home of the best players, able to handle a mega-airline. You should keep that task for later, after having survived a whole game-world with a smaller one. There are always lots of airports around the world waiting to be connected.
