DC-10/MD-11 Commonality (or MD-10 Retrofit Option)
« on: July 25, 2013, 06:14:28 PM »
Sami, can we make the MD-11 common with the DC-10 family? That would make the MD-11 more viable and playable, which currently it is not, because of its lack of commonality with other aircraft types and relatively high fuel consumption for its time period (which results from its design being based on the much earlier DC-10).

Or, if you don't think a direct commonality match would be reasonable, how about allowing an MD-10 retrofit to DC-10s which would make them common to MD-11s? Per Boeing, the retrofit also reduces some weight and reduces the number of pilots needed to fly the plane. Boeing also says that the retrofit specifically allows the MD-10 and MD-11 to share a common type rating for pilots.
