Day Length
« on: July 06, 2013, 11:24:10 AM »
Just wondering if the day length of 20 mins is going to be true throughout the entire game?

I'm dead keen on it being this fast (I've been missing such fast worlds for a while) so I'm just curious if, as time goes on, the day length will be increased?

Cheers

Just goes to show how tastes differ... I really don't lkie the faster day lengh.  I am one of the TRUE SADDOS that WILL get up in the middle of the night to order aircraft and grab slots during the first few critical game-months.  Now, instead of having to get up just once around 4am I have to do it TWICE!  ???  :-\  :-[

BUT....

I just noticed the game RUNS UNTIL 2019 so this is the long awaited and anticipated ultra-long game.  ;D

I didn't read anything about that - Sami snook it in very quietly!

The game starts with short days (20 mins), but will move to 25 or 30 minute days in the 1970s/1980s and up to 35-45 mins per day in the modern era.

Thanks for the response, that part of Sami's post must've gone over my head.

And yep, tastes really do differ. I personally find it very hard to stomach the 35 min game days, I much prefer a fast moving game world so am a little disappointed that the day length will be increasing over time. I have fond memories of 25 min game days a few years ago which I personally thought was the perfect length.

Sami's intro on the game:

Jet age will progress through DOTM and then MT
Game day times will go from 20 mins to 35 mins over time - exact timing unknown (game engine stuff)

So The old JA, DOTM & MT games really are no longer, as it appears that they will be games that start in JA era and finish in MT era.

Is that what he's saying though? All games to be replaced by this new format? Or just this one trial so far??

This game world is the first in AirwaySim to test the concept of ultra-long scenarios.

I think there will be at least 1 more DOTM MT etc as sami may want to see the outcome of this JA.

I am thinking that the Dotm scenario could be all the way to the 2020 too, apart that is starts in 1975. This way these two servers would be "in sync" with each others already. But have to calculate and think a bit first.

Can you please consider making it to the 2030 or the 2035 ???... MT ends just when you have to start using those amazing new birds like the NEO, the NG, the CS series, etc, etc...

You'd be bored toward end of that 2030s game as there's nothing to be released in that time. Or sami can make some magic planes, and then there will be request to extend to 2050s, and then more miracle planes, and then toward 2070s.......

I don't care about the "releases", since using a new release 5 years before game end doesn't make sense... At least for me, I won't make a huge schedule change just to fly a new release for 5 years, but I'd do it if I can fly that new plane for at least 10 to 15 years...

Take the Bombardier CS series for example... they are amazing planes that I'd love to use... But they are not produced at least by 2014... Add a year or two until you can make a small decent fleet of them... you will be changing a whole schedule for flying them for only 3-4 years... that doesn't sound like fun to me...

Same happens with A320 neo... it starts to fly on 2015, and it requires a schedule overhaul (since it's a different fleet type)... just to fly them 2-3 years ??... no fun, and no usable...

Is it also foreseen to include 737/757 with winglets and 320s with sharklets in the types available?
