Lack of used aircraft
« on: August 09, 2012, 03:17:13 PM »
I'm getting rather frustrated. I joined just a couple of weeks ago, and my airline in this "world" is quite new. When I started it there were a handful of DC-9s available on the used market which I grabbed for lease. But now the Used Aircraft market is completely empty of DC-9s, B737s, MD-80s and other affordable medium range 100-200 pax models. The only way to get new ones is by ordering from the factory, but when you have limited funds that's not always an option. Especially not when it takes YEARS to get them.

Anybody who can get an A320 off of the used market at this time of the game is either...

A. Cheating
B. Spending 6 hours a day on AWS
C. The luckiest person on planet earth. (Go buy yourself a lottery ticket if you are in this category.)

I am in category B and still haven't been able to get any in a while.

I'm not looking for a fuel efficient A320. It's not realistic, I know... and I don't expect to be able to buy one yet. But absolutely no used DC-9s, B737-200adv, B727-200adv, MD-80s on the market in the entire world is not natural..

There are around between 50-100 737/727/MD80s/DC-9s in storage right now. Its the law of supply and demand. The used market is not going to take a plane from storage and put it on the market every time the last plane on the market is snapped up nor is it going to flood the market with dozens of planes. Those 100 planes in each category will be released at random in ones and twos in the next days months and years.

The market will get getter once more established airlines transition from their old DC9/727 and 737 100 into newer planes and when airlines start to go bk.

You might be just unlucky. Try to go for the DC 9s and 727s to give you enough cash to start ordering new planes. These planes are older and tend to stay on the market longer than the 737/MD80/A320s.

Good Luck

Thanks.. I've ended up having both F.28s, DC-9s, 727s and even Tristars in my fleet, which really sucks. I want my fleet streamlined, it's just that it's impossible when there are no available aircraft.

Another question: Is it possible to terminate a lease contract by paying a fee before the contract period is over?

Yes. It will cost you roughly half of the remaining lease payments. If you go to the individual aircraft page, you should see buttons on the right for 'extend lease', 'purchase aircraft' and 'terminate lease'.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm currently retiring my DC-9's as MD80/90's come (rarely) up on the used market, and my new a/c orders roll in. You won't want some of them (20+ years of service) but a few are still serviceable. Hopefully the brokers perform a D check before putting them on the market for you.

Thanks teebob  :) Are they previous leases? I saw a few of them popping up now, I just have to wait a few days to order because I'm waiting on three 727s and it won't let me order any more today.

I just replaced three that had been leased. One was a month overdue for D check, so if the brokers take 60 days to do that (like a player does), it'll be a couple months game time.

I've been buying planes factory new and putting them for lease, and I've never waited longer than 3 minutes for someone to snap up a brand new A320 with the best engines and 0 flight hours.

So you have been playing 170 game days
You have 6 x DC9's in use and 3 x 727-200Adv on order.
That's an average of 1.5 planes per game month.

And there is a lack of suitable planes for you?

Get orders asap for new planes is all I can advise. I got rid of all of my 727s by getting orders in early, A320s are def worth the wait. Did manage to pick two up off the used market by some miracle. Also got some F100s filling in for A320s right now, not as big but still profitable, 5 lovely shiny new A320s are arriving this year to take over from them though.

I want A320, A330/340 and B747 and I didn't get any of them in 2 real days. I refresh the market everytime I log in to the game and end up I taking loan to order new ones which will come to me in 2002. :'(

There's nothing wrong with flying planes no one else wants as long as you can get a lot of them. Between all of my airlines I am currently flying 37 Tu-134s, 20 An-26s and 25 LET L-410Ms.
