MD-90-30(ER)

Hello guys,
I would like to have your opinion on the MD-90-30(er), I know that in real life this airplane was not very sucessfull mainly due to the MD/Boeing merger that "killed it" back in 1997...

But I think that this airplane could be sucessfull here in AWS... I think that it's quite economic due to the V2500 engine... but I don't know how would it stand against a A320 or a B737-400...

I've found the following info about it:
Quote
Most important of the changes introduced on the MD-90 are the two V2500 turbofans. At 111kN (25,000lb) thrust on the MD-90-30, the V2500s are the largest, heaviest and most powerful engines to be rear mounted on any airliner yet. More importantly though, the V2500 is highly regarded for its efficiency and fuel economy.

Other changes to the MD-90 include the 1.4m (4ft 6in) fuselage stretch forward of the wing, allowing seating for an extra 10 passengers (in a two class arrangement). The stretch is forward of the wing to compensate for the extra weight of the engines. The MD-90 also features an EFIS glass flightdeck based on that in the MD88, and other detail improvements such as a revised passenger interior.

So what do you think? Are these birds worth a try? Or should be left alone and keep buying B737's and A320's?

Never tried it, but by the looks of it, it's sort of a middle ground between the two. slightly faster than the 734, slightly slower than the airbus. Same with fuel efficiency and range and pax capacity. Considering the order backlog..it might be the best option for faster delivery. But by the tech specs, it looks like an equal, and as this is AWS..should be just fine. I think alot of players don't dare to try planes with shorter backlogs..but it's occasionally a very wise decision I'd say.

I tried these and these planes are great when the orders of A320/B737NG piles up to a couple thousands. But since the production list for A320 is not bad right now, I'd choose A320 over MD90. (You have to wait for 2 years for 737NG)

They are really wonderful...6 months ago when I was playing Modern Times (one of the hardest scenarios of AWS) I flew from Jomo Kenyata to all destinations which are in 4000NM range (by tecnical stop) and my all fleet was full of them. They are really great & concrete birds.

Modern Times (one of the hardest scenarios of AWS)

I remember my first game was Modern Times... The fuel price was  :o :-\ >:( :'(
But I really like that era. I always wish there would be similar time but with friendlier environment...

MD 90s are good aircraft in MT, they are not the best of their category, but they can compete very well and are at certain times easier to get as demand for them is not as crazy as for A320s or 737NGs.

Have had a good sized fleet of the MDs in the past and they were fantastic, fly them on the right rotation and you will get good load factors. The range without a technical stop can be a bit of a pain.

I chose them as there was no used A319/20s or 737 on market.

Now that i have a choice i have opted for the Airbus.
