How to scrap aircraft?
« on: May 18, 2012, 03:18:05 AM »
It might be a stupid question, but how can I scrap my aircraft?

I'm currently fasing out my DC-6B's but there is no market for them anymore to sell them even for a low price.

Can someone tell me how to get rid of them?

Thanks!

Once an aircraft is 15 years old, you can scrap it from the "My Aircraft" page.

If the aircraft is less than 15 years old, put it on the used market at the max allowed discount and occasionally an AI broker will pick it up (still more $$ than you get for scrapping it) and at minimum you won't have to pay fleet commonality costs.

They have to be either over 15 years of age or in a bad condition (low percentage, not sure of the exact figure), and you must of course own the aircraft to scrap it.

I guess your DC-6s are too young. Scrapping only gives you a quarter of their value so even of you put them at low prices on the used market, an AI broker may buy some.

My DC-6B's are 12 / 13 years old and the condition is 95% to 100%.

Config: Y 75 / C 8
Range: 2900 NM

I'm currently selling them at USD 1.750.000,-

That should not be a bad price for them!

If they are sold under value, there is a chance, that a broker may buy it... pretty low though, can take years, especially with the current situation on the used market.

Once the plane is 15yrs old, or under -I think- 25% (not sure though) you can go scrap it. The Scrapyard pays you 25% of the market value of the aircraft. Always a better deal, if you get it sold for 50% on the used market... but that takes time and patience!!

I once had a plane sent back to me from a BKed lessee at 25% condition with A, B and C checks expired. It was three years old. ::) At least it sounds like you only have two or three years left before you can scrap your garbage.
