Fuel costs!!
« on: May 18, 2012, 02:20:52 AM »
OMFG!

I hedged 50% at 104, but my hedge is running out in a couple weeks, and what will I do then??

My poor, gas-guzzling 707s!!

I've added a fuel surcharge, but the pax aren't too pleased with it.  :-\

You need to refresh your prices every 4 months or so to track fuel prices, inflation etc, otherwise you'll find you quickly lose your profit margins.

As for fuel prices, expect them to go up to mid 200's in th mid 80's at a minimum - you need to drop the 707's preogressivelly as soon as you can pick up alternative airframes.  I'm using DC-8's for now but will be getting in TriStarts from the early 1980's

Time to get rid of B747-200s on the routes with demand of 180 passengers I guess...  :-[

Well I went and did it, did my first and only fare increase so far in the simulation.  Did a one time 3% uptick.

Talk about some upset pax!

My JFK offices were stormed by Occupy Wall Street screaming "We are the 99%", all 12 of them!

I'd run shorter, domestic routes that will save more on fuel. You'll be able to operate more daily flights and won't feel the same impact from fuel costs.

I hedged at $160 for a year with 11-10 months to go, for a while there it was really bad timing but now I feel better.

looks like I may have to renew in the 200's, holding my breath to see if it will dip below before renewing :-[

Personally I only renew on a dip. So that way I know that even if I hedged at "almost" the highest price, there is no way I can hedge at the highest price in a spike.

Fuel costs have now reached 300 plus, it seems as my airline is in dire straits from this. Is there any relief in sight??!!
