Your thoughts on the Boeing 717-200
« on: March 14, 2012, 09:42:07 PM »
The aircraft i started out with is a Boeing 717-200 i have total of 98 seats 8 are Business Class.

Is that a good setup i fly short trips and long trips with it.

The question is the demand for the routes. If you have the C-demand you're fine, as C seats pay better than Economy, if not, you should drop the C seats in favor of more Y-seats to be filling more seats.

Anyhow, the 717 is not exactly the best plane to start off with in a MT-game as fuel price is pretty high. Though I guess it will be plentily available thus expansion is easy.

Let me know if you do well with them, maybe I'll get to use them as well in future.

cheers,

Well, I just looked into your profile...

seeing that you just joined yesterday, I'd highly suggest to you to play the demo or the Beginners World games first. You should first get some experience before joining the full games. These games are a lot harder and also competition is stronger here and it is often harsh to new players to get running in those games.

cheers,

So far doing good my aircraft is staying in the low to upper 70% range for being filled.

My opinnion on the B717 is that it's useless.

Embraer 195 takes more passengers, flies faster, uses less fuel, is cheaper to maintain, cheaper landing fees, and the C and D checks take less time.

...and that is why they stopped making them in the real world.  Airtran flies them now as well as Hawaiian.

Qantas sub QantasLink flies them too.....great jets if used right (IRL). QantasLink just took delivery of 2 more recently, great for outback/regional hops. In the game though, not so good.

Yea i do agree that they should have made more seating on the 717's because they are really a nice ride in real life.

I hope airTran/SWA don't ditch the 717's

wn has stated that they don't intend to keep them long term. I'd expect delta could be interested in them though. I tend to prefer the md95's grandfather, the dc9, for my short haul flying.

I've always fancied flying them in the game but...  I've always ended up choosing something else.  I currently have Fokker 100's and last time I had the E195.  It's not that the 717 is BAD, it's just that there are better choices - subject to availability of course.

Back to real life...   I was just reading yesterday of a new airline in Europe. Volotea - they'll be starting operations out of Venice in April with three 717s. They plan to be a niche low-cost operator serving smaller cities with a 717 only fleet.  Make a nice change and I will try them when I can.  My only previous 717 flight was Bangkok Airways out of BKK.  They've all been replaced by A319 now. Great airline.  My only MD90 flight was with them too.

My 2 717-200's are flying nonstop and doing really good for the fuel prices in the game.

I fly Airtran A LOT, and I know that they own the first ever built 717-200ADV, and the last built 717-200ADV.

Maybe thats why they desperately need this buy-out by Southwest
