Q400 oddity
« on: February 06, 2012, 03:19:07 PM »
Anyone spot what is odd about the global stats for the Q400 below?
(Hint, first production frame was delivered in May 2000)

Nothing abnormal to me. The 4 scrapped ones were simply worth more as parts likely due to a failing airline forgeting to perform maint....

Can 2 yr old frames become so degraded as to be less than 1/3rd their value without getting grounded?

I guess their condition loses about 5% - 6% per week so it is possible.

Okay, but I'm still finding this odd. Presumably it is the leasing agency that scrapped these planes. But surely, it would not cost 18+ million to repair a 2 yr old (or less) frame from 30% condition to something leasable?  A D check on Q400 is only 1.2 million.

AWS has a threshold, once the aircraft falls below it, the aircraft is scrapped.  Sami posted it a couple of times.  So with the aircraft degrading fairly quickly, it can drop below the threshold easily in 3 to 6 months (if there are no A/B/C checks).

I know it may be frustrating to players to see a highly desirable aircraft get scrapped..  If I got that aircraft returned to me, even in 20% - 30% condidion (which has happened in the past) I just repair it (if the aircraft is fairly new)...

Okay, thanks. Missed Sami's posts on this. Not frustrated so much as confounded.
