Used 777-200s
« on: December 11, 2011, 03:14:07 PM »
Slightly curious as to why there are about 80 used 777-200s in storage and yet they don't seem to be appearing on the used market at all? Can anyone shed some light?

Not sure that really answers the question I was really asking. I know that not all aircraft are dumped on the used market in one go, but I have not seen any 777s on the used market at all. AFAIK the only 777s operational now are those that have been ordered new and there have been 0 777s from storage to be leased out. If there are 80 there then I'd expect maybe 2/3 to be available on a market refresh, not none.

You may have missed them. I believe several airlines are using them used currently.

Actually, I don't know the precise mechanics, but it appears that a/c only become available on the used market when the average age of those in used storage approaches 1 year.  This happens with all recently introduced models, not just 777s.

Ah, that would make sense. I just bagged one, albeit with RR engines, but never mind.
