Bombardier CS300 vs A320 circa 2015
« on: November 10, 2011, 06:23:58 PM »
My A320 fleet is nearing its 8 year leasing end point and I am looking for replacement options. The CRJ1000's have been very good to me in this fuel spike and I'm wondering if the CS300s are viable replacement options for the A320. In the recent game year, the Japanese routes have become so saturated (i.e. 3X supply over demand) that my A320s are reaching an average LF of ~60%. Hence I'm considering:

  • Buying A320s
  • Buying CRJ1000s (perhaps 1.3 CRJs for every A320)
  • Buying CS300 (1 to 1 replacement for each A320)

I'm somewhat hesitant to invest in these new planes because the tried old and tested planes seem to always be the best. Case in point: 777-300ERs (even on lease) bring me better profits circa. 2015 than the 787.

I've never used them - they appear too late in the game but I always fly Embraer 195's which are (almost) similar.  They do OK if you're careful how you use them (this from someone who's about to be driven into bankrupcy but that's for another reason).  The CS300's look good - bigger and less thirsty than the Embraer so I imagine they'd work well.  Go for it - it's so late in the game you have little to lose.  Let us know how it works out!

EDIT to add: The Embraers are being produced quite quickly at the moment - I'm receiving one every 12 days whereas the CS300's are showing as approx. one every 22 days and CRJ1000 every 18 days.  Might be a factor if you want to replace a fleet quickly.  30 per years versus 20 or 16.  Just a thought.

If you have the readily available cash, I would go CS300. They are working brilliantly for me. I just wish they were introduced earlier (I know, if wishes were horses...) so that we could see what they would really do over the longterm.

CS100/300 both are game changers. You can fly them once a day on long routes and still make nice profits. I used them in MT4 and got to a fleet of about 25-30 and they made me about 4mil a week. Now that was out of a smaller airport and they were strictly flying routes from it to the west coast.

Right now i have a fleet of 8 but im trying to expand it further. I replaced one ERJ-195 with 1 CS-300 and the weekly profit for the single plane went from ~400k a week to nearly 800k for the CS300. They both were flying the same routes which were scheduled for 4 a day.

They are a great plane and if they would come earlier would almost completely kill the 737 and A320 business case as they are now in the game.
