Berlin Tegal has no airlines. In America Ft. Lauderdale is ripe for the taking

Alright,

I've moved to Berlin Tegel for the last time this week. See how things work out here.

What I did;

Based myself at Berlin Tegel,
Leased an B734. It's age is 10.93, condition 93%, C check in 10 months and D check in 2.7 years.

Bought only 1 a/c to see how things work out.

--

Opened routes to London Gatwick. Flying them everyday from 21:00 untill 06:00. Then again from 06:45 untill 11:50
and the last flight is from 13:00 untill 18:05.

Placed the A/B check on saturday at 16:00.

--

Signed a contract for fuel,
Started marketing in my city with Internet, Newspaper and Billboards (13000$ per week),
Decreased prices by 15-20%.

Sounds good?

EDIT:

Leased another B734. Started operations to Munich as there was enough demand. 4 flights
per day.

You might be spending too much on marketing...Also, you do not need a fuel contract with only 1 aircraft.

A big difference between doing well and B/K is plane scheduling, and from what you have posted you need to look closer at this area.

My plane schedules look very similar to what Swiftus has posted -

- I have turn around times set to achieve a less than 1% margin for delays between flights and between the return legs of the flight (still get them though)
- Take off prior to 23:00hrs and land after 05:00hrs to maximise 'plane in air' time

get the most $$$ out of your birds and make the staff earn their wages

I run an excel spreadsheet for scheduling - example below
As you can see my birds fly 24/7 except for the A check allocation

06:10:00   70   10:45:00   70   123456_   Dallas - Fort Worth   KDFW    400   009/010
11:55:00   70   16:20:00   70   1234567   Chicago Midway       KMDW   351   087/088
17:30:00   70   21:05:00   70   1234567   St. Louis - Lambert   KSTL     205   013/014
22:15:00   70   05:00:00   70   1234567   Salt Lake City         KSLC     797   015/016

Note - I am not in MT#5, I am playing 3 other scenarios.

Regards Darryl

Edit - your last posted schedule looks a lot better

Keep in mind that Modern Times 5 is played in version 1.3

Which means that another gotcha is that you need to keep multiple flights on the same route a min of 45 mins apart (large airports) otherwise your LF (Load Factor) on all the same routes will suffer

22:15:00   70   05:00:00   70   1234567   Salt Lake City         KSLC     797   015/016

The reason I chose start time of 22:15 for the above flights is so I could schedule another flight on the same route (with a different plane) to start at 23:00 hrs and therefore also stay out of the 'red eye' time of 23:00hrs to 5:00am - try to have your plane in the air during this period.

Regards Darryl

Perhaps not very useful now but why hanging on the 737 so much?

Like you say everybody wants them so lease-prize is on avarage 130% of what they should be (on aircraft information compare value to something like sale prize). Unless you lease them brand new, in that case be patient because it can take a few years before you get one.

There are endless discussions on which aircraft is better ans yes the 737 is a very good aircraft (when for a prize close to the actual value) but they are just not available. MD-80's, for example, are usually available on the used aircraft otherwise have a short leadtime when orderd new. Perhaps you loose a procent or 2 on profit, I don't think so but Boeing lovers will tell you otherwise, but you can get a plane as soon as you have the money. Flying an airplane with less margin is still a lot better than waiting 4 years on a plane! You money is with Boeing for now income in return! Do the maths on that.

Another benefit of a good available aircraft is the lease. You should check the difference in lease prizes between a 737 and a MD-80. On peak demands it can be over 150.000 USD per month

When starting an airline make sure to take in account the availibility of aircraft. I played the jet age once and kicked ass with the Tupulevs, expensive to run but available in a moments notice!

I don't know? I think because I know what to expect?

Anyways, would it be a good idea to also start operations with the ATR-500
for routes in Germany and neighbour country's?

It gives me 2 fleet types though...
