have an idea, but don't know if I should bother. Smaller planes (maybe EMB's, I dunno, or props) from a large city base to some smaller airports with in say a 900 mile radius, probably less? Thought please, people? :) P.S. Example route, I don't know if it exists or is doable, but like MSY-CRP and PNS and things like that?

From a large city. Then you can use ATR or Q400 and you will survive but barely able to expand.

The slots cost will limit your growth rate, however you still can expand slowly.
like GDK said, ATR or Q400 will help you to survive.
Even CRJ can get you running if there's not much competitors

Instead of basing at a major airport in a big city, try the secondary airport.  Like Chicago-Midway or Dallas-Love.
