Why are so many flights allowed on this route, surely this must be a blatant case of over supply?

Of course I could be completely wrong?  ;D

There a lot of airlines flying that route I guess to the max. But there are only 3 flying LHR-JFK and one has 55% they must be WAY over the 110% rule.

There is no 110% rule.

But there is a 200% rule, however, it would be near impossible to schedule even near 150% on this route due to the new scheduling rule . I think that I fly 105% and I was struggling to find times to fly to avoid conflict.

Not succesfully, look at flights DAA038, DAA172 and DAA176. Those surely get penalized.

Considering the number of aircraft that I have on the route its still not bad, but u are right. I just had a look and they do get penalized. Will have to look into changing those birds.

Now while you are at it have a look at my other flights/destinations and let me know where else I might have a scheduling conflict  ;)

I was not having a go at you Dan I was just asking a question. I route with about 4000 demand and 10000 available seats was just very strange.

:-) I dident think that u did buddy.

FYI, I know that I fill the route and I know that Jona is up there with almost 100% demand so thats 8000 and then a few other ones. Can happen on such a prestige route  ;)

You can still make money with that type of oversupply.

From experience I can tell that LHRJFK route is profitable even when total supply of all airlines is somewhere around 250% of total demand. Trick is to have enough frequency ;)

What impresses me about this route right now, especially given all the recent talk in other forum threads about the frequency advantage, is the appropriateness of the aircraft flying it -- overwhelmingly B777s, A333s, and DC10s. Only a couple of B757s in the mix.

I'm interesting to know, how's the loading for those flights departing between 0100 and 0400, e.g. Formosa Pacific has 4 flights depart between 0100 and 0115!

Something between 5-30% LF those nightflights usually have.

The intention to make them is not earning money, it's simply increasing frequency to make the day flights more profitable and lower profit of competitors.
