Fuel
« on: March 28, 2011, 09:33:38 PM »
Just curious (I'm a newbie..ish)...

Looks like the fuel prices are slowly starting to go up now and a bumpy ride is on the horizon (at least for me, since I have some Russian metal). Therefore, when will it start to fall to a reasonable price again?

Thanks :D

dont count on it. it is rising but it is still reasonably cheap. it always begins on the low and goes up further during the game. it may still go down for some time, but it is certain that it will be above 800 for most of the game time. at peak times its going to reach as much as 1200USD.

In MT3, the average fuel price after the initial easy start was around $1000. The current price at $600 is still cheap.

I hope it will raise up to US$1000 soon, as I'm waiting for airlines (especially for large one) to b/k, so that I can get more large used a/c! Currently I can only get prop, mainly rely on MA60.

If you ever owned stock of an airline or the bonds, you'll realize that airlines are not ment to make profits beyond the high salaries and generous pensions.... all due to unperfect fuel hedging (or variable fixed cost).

Fuel prices should be (on avergae) at a level that makes the average airline in the game, barely break even.

I cant even make a profit with a 737-400  :'(

The 734 is a very fuel efficient plane given it has 162 seats. Fuel consumption per seat is low and lease is low too. My LF is about 75%

I'm downgrading a lot of my less profitable A32x flights to props right now, because I simply can't afford to keep paying for staff, fuel, etc. with jets. Once I finish that, I'll start reallocating slots to A330/A340. These fuel prices are killers though.

I'm going to go bust soon... :'(
I just simply can't afford all the fuel/staff costs now. I make 1-2m per week now (less than 1% profit margin), and 8 of my planes are due C checks in the next 15 days.
Oh joy.

Hmm... You have five fleet types and two bases. Cut at least one type (I suggest Tupolev) and close the Kaohsiung hub, and you will be fine.
And btw. B717 and E190 are almost the same size, so you could let other type go and focus on the more profitable one.

Edit: Nah, you have a sizable network from Kaohsiung so it doesn't make sense closing it. But what you could do is to close those A-B-C routes. They can't be very profitable...

Thank you!
I think I'll get rid of the E-jets first, there aren't too many of them.

well, the fuel price solved the problem of planes supply now, at lease for a few game mouths ;) Airline news just likes the death note and there is a long row of fallen airlines......

thanks god I can still make money now but the gas bill eat up most of my profit......

hahahahaha LOL there are so many planes in the used aircraft market now

I was going to save up for some jets... but I may rethink that... ATR'S for the win!

Jet Age and Dawn of the Millenium are easy compared to Modern Times. In the period 1960-2000, you can just set up your airline and just keep on a look out for marauding competition. Your airline will mostly run itself and make $$. In Modern Times, you have to actively manage your airline almost constantly. I havent added a plane in nearly a year game time, but I am constantly adjusting fares to reflect fuel prices and looking at adjusting advertising, and personnel expenses to keep from going under.

I think the better prop should be Q-400, or MA60! Q-400 is fast enough to make 1 more trip per day, while MA60 is cheap enough to operate and it can still make up 60 pax (when compared to AN-140 for 52 pax only).
