Fuel or Fleet Commonality?
« on: March 08, 2011, 04:00:06 PM »
I have the choice of going with a plane with a similar P&W engine to that of my fleet (I have 737's).  Should I go with this choice, even though the fuel cost is almost double, or should I go with a different plane with a completely different set of engines (but half the fuel cost)?

Which is more cost effective?

Well... doesn't that depend on the time you will fly the airplane? The longer you will operate it, the less efficient it will be for your company due to rising fuel costs. It's a bit of fleet management on where you want to go with your airline.

Engine commonality is not as important as fuel burn

I'll echo Bob here.  I'd go for fuel efficiency, especially considering the era we are playing in.
