Can deliveries be postponed? I ordered 6 DC-8-62s which were due for 1972, but I can't get them sooner than 1973 now... :-\

I just got a DC 8-62, but i only ordered one, lucky me at time it only took 4 months to get it.  8)
Now i go back looking for another one (i know should have ordered more first time around)  :-[
And now it says i cant get another one until 1974  :o

Why does it take so long, and why when there is free delivery spots closer the system
does not give you the next free spot but put you right at the end. ???

Any one with an insight into the way this works, i would love to know.

Cheers

P.S. if anyone out there have a DC 8-62 they can lease cheap to a poor small airline. let me know  ;D

Ordering system works like this:

Your first order will always go to the next open slot.
Your next order of same type will go into next vacant slot AFTER your current one + the random number of days/weeks between when you are allowed to receive them (Sami set that so people can't block order... don't bring me back to Magic Carpet days)

Another question related to that: I ordered some BAC 111s and although there are plenty of space in the production list, I have to wait for 1,5 month before receiving my first plane.

There is also plenty of free space in between the different planes.

Any reason for this??

The manufacturer has to make the first aircraft from scratch, which is why it takes some time. They don't build planes just in case some1 would buy it.
And Swiftus explained above, why there are gaps between ordered planes:

Ordering system works like this:

Your first order will always go to the next open slot [but always far enough that there is time to build the aircraft].
Your next order of same type will go into next vacant slot AFTER your current one + the random number of days/weeks between when you are allowed to receive them (Sami set that so people can't block order... don't bring me back to Magic Carpet days)

Edit: And by Magic Carpet days Swiftus refers to the first games, where a single player could order dozens of aircraft, receiving them right after another, thus leaving every1 else with huge order queues.
