LF on first LH flight
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:54:43 PM »
Hi
I run a medium airline in South America with ca. 15 medium ac's. I found out that i have good pax demand on longhaul flights to many north american city's, so I leased a B737-9 to see if it turns profitable. BUt now, after almost 1 year of flying the route (image 100) the LF does not surpass 60% and the profit is low or inexistent (the route demand is 210 and the Boeing has 180). I have CI at 80 but still no change... Any clue?

Is there any competition
Does the flight take off between 23:00-5:00
Is the airplane really old?
Is it in high-density config?

What is your CI? What is the distance traveled?

1. No competition
2. All depart before 23.00 and after 06.00
3. The plane is 6y old
4. Highest density but not "poor".

5. CI is 80
6. Distance is 4200nm (tech stop on 2700nm)

I can't find the problem...

I find that HD seating on long haul flights is not as effective as standard seating.

That's the problem. Sitting in HD seats for longer than ~3 hours is a bad thing.

Also make sure the tech stop doesn't happen between 00 -05, as that too lowers the LF.

The change in the seats made the difference. LF jumped from 55% to 85%! Thx

Also, does the tech time stop really has an impact on LF? the pax neither descend from the ac nor board new ones.

Yes, by about 10%.

It's simply inconvenient and takes longer.  It really should only affect things if there's competition on the route, but AWS isn't quite that smart.  It makes a pretty big difference even when you're alone.

Think of it this way: if you are flying a long flight during the night, do you want your sleep to be interrupted in between the flight because of an extra landing?  ::)

During the day it of course shouldn't matter as much, but in AWS it still does...
