1960 - Boeing 727 ???
« on: November 03, 2010, 05:50:43 PM »
Hallo to Everybody,

I wish everybody good success in this game.

I wonder, when will the first production-announcements for the B-727 appear?

OK, I couldnīt order this plane yet, but Boeing startet rolling the dice with the 727 in 1960.

But of course I want to convert my small fleet into jets as soon as possible.

Greetings,

BizFlyer

Quote
The first Boeing 727 flew in 1963 and for over a decade it was the most produced commercial jet airliner in the world.

I'd say you've got a few more years.

If you want somthing smaller the DC-9 rolls out about a year or two later.

I was actually wondering this same thing last night. The 727 saw flight in early 63 and entered commercial service in early 64. I may be wrong but I thought a plane got announced 3-4 years before certification in AWS. Perhaps certification in AWS is dated at 2-3 months (time for first one to roll off production line) before the first commercial service, which would put the announcement Dec of this year at the latest? Just guessing there but if I didn't see it announced by year's end, I would start to get worried that Sami was playing a cruel game with our souls.

The launch of aircraft can deviate from real life by +-2 years iirc, so if the irl first flight was in 1963 you might have to wait until as late as 1965 if the psudorandom number gods were feeling cruel.

I've certainly noticed that with some types, but I think there would be uproar if the A380 launch was 2 years late (not that affects this world), although a late launching 747 might...

Thanks, I was on the same page myself.

When you look at the bottom of that page, you can see, that the first orders were placed already in 1960. Ordering does not mean delivery, which, was rightly mentioned by others, took place in 1964 for the fist time.

Best regards,

According to Wikipedia, the 737-100 entered service in 1968, so in AWS it will come around 1966-1970, and announced few years before.
