Missing "SAAB" aircrafts in MT3
« on: October 23, 2010, 10:50:33 AM »
Was looking at new aircraft's and there is no option to buy either Saab 340 or Saab 2000. As far I know the project was launched in 1998 and it snow 2004 game time.

cheers

Saab 340's stopped being made in 1999 and the Saab 2000 stopped being made in the same year in the real world due to lack of orders (all the orders were for the CRJ and ERJ instead).

no worries. I always loved the Saab aircraft but they (just like Fokker) were out-competed by foreign aircraft designs. I bet now many of those airlines that ordered the ERJ and CRJ are now wishing they'd ordered the Saab 2000 instead.

true, only problem is it comes in only one config, where as ATR 42/72 gives a good variety (pax no; 48/64) but Saab are quicker .

Coz they are the best props out there and for SH flights they rule the sky. I have 100+ on order and wish I could have them all at once :-)

Exactly... I got a lot of them in service, and 28 on order. And I choose them for a good reason.

I'm sure if Saab brought the 2000 back into production they could easily ramp up orders.  It's a brilliantly fast aircraft and far more profitable than RJs on most routes.  I operated an entire fleet back in the last modern times world where there were heaps of them available on the market.  Unfortunately the number in the current world is far too small, I've had to settle for either slow DHCs or costly RJs.  I was too late to get in the Q400 order queue  :(

The problem in the real world is airport slots... operating a 50 seater is not welcomed by the airport if they could sell the same slot to an operator using a 737.

With current high slot prices I doubt operating a 50 seater will pay off. (unless you want to do a Lelystad to Doncaster LCC operation... which no one wants to use)

That does not really make sense. The Saab 340 is on the used market. If the 2000 stopped being produced in that same year, why are there none on the used market then?

A quick look on the stats shows that there is over 100 340's and only 23 2000's. Is that reality? In that case I think this game should make some slight sidesteps towards 'playability' and not fully focus on reality.

AWS randomises aircraft so sometimes you will see numbers of aircraft that didnt exist (in one game I saw 48 Concordes in Storage for example when in the real world only 14 commercial concordes were built).

As for the Saab 2000, 53 were built in the real world I believe.

Yeah, around that many still in service, production number says 64.
The 340 though, was a better timed product, with 450+ planes built which is a lot for that type of aircraft.
