About engine commonality
« on: October 16, 2010, 03:54:46 PM »
Ok, so this isn't a big issue and doesn't affect much, but I have 5 aircraft operating GE CF6 -engines (2 sub types) and 1 aircraft operating PW JT9D engines. Now, the fleet commonality page is showing my fixed maintenance costs to be $350k/month/GE, but only 150k/month/PW. How is this possible, that the engines I have more cost more to maintain?

Because that sentence is wrong.  Always has been.

You don't pay $350K PER month PER engine.

You pay that much PER month.  Period.  The " / engine" part shouldn't be there.

So, on a per-engine basis, you're paying less for the GEs due to economies of scale.
