How are used planes getting scrapped and never sold?
« on: October 16, 2010, 10:43:27 AM »
I see that the CPU is scrapping 772s and 773s.  I dont recall ever seeing them on the used market to begin with.

What gives?

The year is 2002.  The 777-200 was first sold in 1994.  2002-1994=8.

It goes to scrap if it's been with the broker long enough, and has rotated through the used marked many-many times (was it 5 times there?). OR if it's very old or poor condition.

The scap condition #1 (market rotation) will change a bit in v.1.3 with improved aircraft storage thingy. Which would hopefully allow better rotation for used planes in the very long game worlds, now the problem is that after 50-60% most of the broker planes are scrapped and I have to regenerate some... (possibly also players can store their planes temporarily with this feature then)

Perhaps you should also pay attention to the beginning of the game world, so that all planes in the game will appear in the used market at some point.

are you honestly telling my that with 500 players in this game somehow 58! 777s got scrapped because they cycled through the used market?

I agree. Doesn't make sense at all. Any 767 for example, is sold within 1 hour of being up. Same with 757s, etc. Even 747-200 are all but gone.

Yes, those are the two possible causes for scrapping, no others.

So how can the 772/3s be in such a bad shape after max 9 years in service before the game started that they would have to be scrapped?

Ask Varig, I believe they beat up theirs as if it was going out of style... ;)

I actually like it this way. Okay, so there aren't a lot of used planes on the market, just buy new ones and if you can't buy new ones just yet : wait a while.

We've been in the game for not even a (game) year and I have 16 widebodies in my fleet, including some brand spanking new 773's, and another 21 new aircraft on order, mixed 332/333/772ER (9 of em) and 12 320 family Airbusses. If in real life it would be this easy to start up an airline, everybody would do it.

I don't know how the game would be more fun, if it would be even easier by adding more used planes on the market.

I think people would buy 777-300 in whatever condition if it appeared on the market.  I don't believe an of the 50 scrapped went through the rotation once.

OTOH, there are always ~10 IL-62MK on the market out of 32 in storage.  And I mean they are there constantly.  I don't know how long the rotation lasts, but I doubt there is any model that got a chance to go through the rotation more often.  Some are old and not so great condition.  One would suspect that they would all be scrapped.  But no, only 2 IL-62MK scrapped, compared to 50 777-300 scrapped.

Checked the database and I don't know where you are getting this "dozens 777s scrapped". None have been scrapped... The global statistics page says the same??
