Worth Starting up an Airline at this Point?
« on: September 06, 2010, 01:33:18 PM »
Hi,

I'm just waiting for the next world to open and was wondering if Jet Age #2 is smothered in giant airlines who have 5 hubs each and have consumed the world  . . . . or, if there are some good places to start an airline.

Thanks!

Only one giant airline and it's inactive since one month or longer ;)

there is no better point to open because of the used market.
and you can survive in jetage with LF lower than 50%.

detroit is very nice.
by the way: you can fill aaaaaaaaaallllll routes with 150% demand and i promise you, you make profits.
i would help you with fokkers and tridents in leasing contracts. the deal just would be.... i tell you then  ;D
and of course you get the a/c as cheap as possible.

Hey, thanks guys.  I was thinking 1/2 way point is good place to jump in since this is the point at which most people become bored.  Thanks!

Hmmm . . . so, I go into the game . . . it seems like every route is absolutely saturated, and King Airways is everywhere.  I really hate how you cannot view routes when selecting your starting airport.  Now, I'm stuck.   :P :-\

Well, I didn't start in Detroit because there were already 3 airlines there.  I decided to go for Salt Lake because there was only 1 airline and tons of slots still open.  Unfortunately, due to the limitations of airline set-up, I was unable to actually view the available routes from a hub to get a sense of saturation.  Well, we'll see what happens.  It's a bummer I have to blow 5 credits just to see if it's worth starting in the game (and knowing a good hub)!

I agree with you about being able to see the routes beforhand. What I have done in the past is use to select another airport, route planniing(this airport as departure) to find a suitable home base. Then just select Bankruptcy as you have 3 tries per 5 credits.

Yes, I had thought about doing this.

I hear your pain.  I think I've decided to make my own goal of being a small, efficient airline seeking those routes that others don't know or care about.  Yeah, right, we'll see how long that lasts!

That's interesting, Jneil.  I've been able to meet my goal as well.  I've done quite well for being so small . . . all with BACs which was interesting and fun.  Now, I'm the only one at Salt Lake City.

We'll, I started 6 game months ago in Jet Age, mostly because I screwed up at MT3.

But, it is possible to still create an profitable airline, and there are LOTS of good starting airports available. Many big players has quit recently, and that allowed me also to manage a nice airline.

Atm I have little under 30 A/C, and more to come. My monthly passenger count is also over 200k (I know that ain't much, but as I said, only 6 months behind).
