The number of slots would have to increase to a huge degree, more than double what they are today (even with AC's higher (read: correct) slot counts) and possibly triple, to have any real change in the dynamic.
Making inflexible slot limits more flexible would be near the top of the list of changes for AWS. Less frustration, better game playability, more flexibility in the game world - all things you would want in the sim.
There's just too much demand there and too much profits made in AWS. Until a significant percentage of the ATL routes are at 300%+ demand, there won't be any change in the status quo there, and it would take a huge increase in slots to do that.
Yes, there is too much demand. But once supply catches up with the demand (or even before the supply catches up with the demand), you may hit the slot limit at several airports, preventing competition...
