[-] A check times for small aircraft
« on: August 26, 2010, 11:50:21 PM »
Should small a/c take the same amount of time to do an A check as a large aircraft?  I can't imagine a Dash-8 and a 777 both taking 5 hours to complete an A check.

Could we have A checks based on the aircraft size?  The motivation here is that time is money on small planes and 5 hours is much costlier to them than a large aircraft.  Couldn't a Dash-8 take only 3 hours to do an A check?

opinions?  too complicated for users to understand?  then if we change A check duration, you're next saying that B should change too? :P

If A checks are going to change, then B-checks should probably change, too.

It's only a minor added complication, as long as it's obvious how long checks will take.

But it's also a negligible benefit. The current 5 & 24 hour times are arbitrary. If it changed to 3 & 12, 4 & 18, 5 & 24, 6 & 36 for the 4 sizes of aircraft, it'd still be completely arbitrary, and the extra profits generated by small/medium planes will be minor.

It's not a bad change to make, but it should be right down the bottom of the priorities list.

For the sake of simplicity, I vote for the keep of 5h A check.

Besides, a check in a small airplane is made by much fewer people than i a medium/large/VLA airplane. But that is more a problem for number of employees for different size of ACFTs.

I think the change would be good. but don't increase the current times. just reduce time for the smaller types.

It would be even better if we can add an option to break up the A check into multiple days, but I'm just dreaming here! that way I can fly routes with 4 hours in between 7 days a week! or at least if turnaround time can be part of the five hours.

For the sake of keeping it simple, it's 5 and 24 hrs for all for now. See also the recent change about maintenance costs for small planes which should help for the earnings.
