I see people abusing the fact that planes are on different build schedules.  For instance, the MD80 series vs the 90.  Because they are different fleets in this game, one can order and both planes at the same time.  I think that needs to end.

For instance, once the MD 90 is ready, the MD 80 will no longer accept new orders.  (In MT2 right now, there are 16 orders for MD 81/82/83.)
When the MD 11 is ready, the DC10 is done.   In MT2 the MD11 is no longer offered but the DC10 is!?!?!?

Sure, this will be done on a case by case basis and will take some time.

Thoughts?

raptorva:
yeah, I agree with you.
My competitor in MT2 is flying a 7 year old MD-11 and a brand new DC-10...

Sigma:
Don't see why it's particularly necessary.

Just because a company comes out with an improved product, doesn't necessarily mean they'll stop making the previous one.  If it's still in demand, and there's enough demand to satisfy the creation of parallel production lines, there's little reason to cancel one.  If there is no demand for the predecessor we already have a feature that will cancel production.  In real-life it is quite common for a predecessor to be produced concurrently with the new model and only when the backlog is small or gets small, will the company provide incentives to get remaining orders to move over to minimize the overhead costs of simultaneous production.

The MD-11/DC-10 issue is certainly a little different though as concurrent production simply doesn't make sense since in that context.

I believe the whole idea of the, requested, dynamic production lines was to produce effects that are not 1=1 with reality (ie. MD-11 line closing at date xxx as in real life).

swiftus27:
No no Sami, you're missing something I was saying here.

I KNOW we needed to change the dates so certain players, myself included, wouldnt hover the computer knowing the announcement was coming.

What I am saying is that the DC 10 line needs to stop when the MD 11 starts building (or at least make it so that no new orders can be made).

You CAN'T have a game where the MD80, MD90, and B717 series are all being produces on separate manufacturing lines.

This is all for a semblance of authenticity.
