Airport Slots Whoring.
« on: July 28, 2010, 12:50:27 PM »
Sami I would like to issue a complaint that apparently two companies Mexicair and Los gatitos Peligrosos based in Mexico City are probably reserving slots by placing multiple routes to keep in reserve for the delivery of their larger aircraft. This can be noticed on the Route Mexico City-Cancun plus various other routes from mexico city that i dont serve.

As long as they are doing it fairly, ie. not flying deliberately much over the projected demand there is no way to tell if it's deliberate slot hogging or not really. If they are oversupplying at the same time, then it's clear.

(which way is it here?)

I'm not oversupplying any routes. I had a 35% profit margin last quarter ... 6th highest of everyone. Most of my planes have 90+ seats. I'm not sure how on earth I could be hoarding slots.

There's plenty of slots open in Mexico City, so what's the problem here?

The LGP corporation is giving the complainant 12 hours from now to either back up its claim or offer LGP an apology. Or else action will be taken by LGP.

The ting with LHR in real life is that it's not feasable to operate 15-50 seaters to hog slots. Cus the rent of slots at LHR is ffff expensive!!

Beg to differ

I always operate in of LHR, in the past I had a fleet of 70 F27s, made an absolute killing on then, flew all over Europe with 1000nm range, and I had mega frequency, its all about the money man.................. ;D

It depends on how you use the slots. You can go for frequency and use more slots on the same route. But remember that you actually can use that slots for other new routes.

Putting 4 50 seat aircraft on a routes occupying 4 set of slots.
Putting 2 100 seats aircraft on that route will only occupy 2 set of slots. You can use the 2 set slots to fly other routes, perhaps long haul with B747 or A380 out of LHR.

It is all your choice and how valuable you want the slots to be.

There are many ways how to compete on slots. But so far we have kept it with the 200% of demand rule, which is in fact quite simple to follow. The rest is competition - go for it! Fighting my way into Madrid right now, with a quite smart incumbent...

I'm very interested what would happen, if, theoretically, one comes along the way and does exact the same thing to the slot hogger as he is doing the all other players.

What do you think?
