[-] Overseas Territories and Open Skies Treaties

(1/2) > >>

Pétion:
The feature in the game that allows hubs anywhere in the European Union is very cool and very realistic but I think it creates an imbalance between Europe and the rest of the world in the game.

Many countries have territories overseas that are considered domestic/internal flights even though they may be long-haul. Basically in real life, although Guadeloupe, Martinique and France are separate territories/countries they are all part of the same internal/domestic aviation space (and within the EU). Other examples would be Puerto Rico/USA, various colonies until the 1960's, island territories, etc.

In addition, many open skies treaties were signed in the 2000's. The US/EU are completing one that unites their airspace but perhaps with some limits on other things like hubs. The US and other countries have signed many agreements in the past few years granting some of the 9 freedoms to specific states. There have also been major international hubs that allow many stopovers (like at BKK, NRT, ANC, HKG, etc).

It would be cool if these changes in aviation markets were reflected in the game as well as the European space is.

Sigma:
The US agreements are also as well-represented as the European one is.  That's really about all there really is out there aside from tiny agreements involving a handful of neighboring nations.  Numerous Asian nations are working on one, but it's not yet implemented in real-life; and while sami could make it so it was implemented in later years in-game, it would only affect a tiny percentage of games and game-time that extends beyond 2012.

If there are territories that should be covered by existing agreements but aren't in-game, just let sami know along with cites official sources and he'll rectify it.  I believe Puerto Rico has already been taken care of as well as Guam and some others in regards to the US; I haven't seen any comments about Martinique and the like yet so don't know if that's working correctly or not.

sami:
For the bases thingy, I would just need info on what countries are territories like PR vs. USA which is already modeled.

Openskies etc. (= freedoms) will follow in next versions.

I personally dislike that European airlines can hub in any other European Airport. This makes he game totaly unrealistic, in real life airlines do not to that (the only exeptions are low cost airlines). British Airways sticks to britian, Alitalia to Italy, Iberia to Spain and so on and so forth. The way it works in the game to be is really unrealistic

Actually lots of big airlines do this,

Lufthansa Italia (Italy), Air France CityFlyer (UK/Ireland), SAS (Denmark, Sweden, and Norway), for example.
