How come I cant change my 739s to 739ERs?
« on: July 06, 2010, 03:33:13 AM »
Hey there. Now that the 739ER has been certified and the first deliveries have gone out, I want to change my existing 737-900 order that is due to start arriving Dec. 2008 into 737-900ERs. When I go to do it, I  can change it to 736, 737, and 738s, but there is no 737-900ER. I dont want to cancel the order and lose my spot, plus since these planes are directly bought, I dont want to end up losing the large downpayments, as well.

Bug? What are your thoughts?

You cannot "upgrade" an order to a model that was announced after you placed your order.

The intent of this is to prevent people from using their "crystal ball" knowledge of the future by ordering a bunch of "lesser" planes and hogging all the queue slots, then upgrading the plane later when the model they really want is announced.

No. Its perfectly fair.

Or large airlines will put in a massive order knowing that they can switch it for a "better" plane later.    How many of us would simply order a TON of 736s when they are first released knowing we could eventually switch them for 900s later?

The same can be said with the MD80 series, the A330/A340 series, .... I could go on but I think you get the point.   It may not be 100% or even 50% authentic but it is the only way to balance this out.

How is it not a dissapointment? ???

I got the point along time ago when that was an issue.... I thought I had ordered it when the 739ER was avaliable... lol.

It's a pity in your case though, because the 737-900 was one of the most pointless planes ever created in my humble opinion:

"The -900ER is the successor to the -900 and is what it should have been in the first place."

-900 production was stopped immediately after the -900ER was certified and production switched to the -900ER.

And yes, I'd be disappointed lol  ;D

You'd be even more dissapointed if you had 37 with 10 on order that you bought  ;)
